Coronavirus and its effects on Folding Project

We all are aware how the massive influx of new folders has effected the project, but how will it effect the people who maintain the computers, manage the work units, and all the other things necessary to keep the project progressing?

Will the stay at home order in California, where Stanford is, effect these people. Will they still be allowed to come into work and do their thing?

If allowed to come in how will they be fed?

And so many other questions that need to be asked.

(I'm in California.) The stay-at-home order is not absolute. I can still go to the grocery store but the lines are long and the shelves are often empty with signs saying "no more than 2 of these."

A tremendous amount of the people who support FAH are "working from home" already. The internet can be a marvelous tool. Yes, somebody needs to be on campus if there's a power failure (heaven help us) but if you can stay more than 6 feet away from anybody else that on an empty campus, you won't be uploading/downloading that nasty virus to another human.

By the way, Dr Pande left Stanford so there's not much going on at that campus. Other FAH labs are part of the FAH Consortium. (search folding@home.org's web pages)

Getting enough Personal Protective Equipment to keep the First Responders (Medical/Fire/Police/etc.) from being infected is a lot more critical an issue than in-person support of our servers. Those folks CANNOT get sick.

Then, too, in the past couple weeks a lot of Cloud resources have been added to FAH. You need to ask that question of them.

1. Does someone need to be physical present at the lab to generate and prepare work units for distribution?

2. Other than Stanford where else are the work units being generated at?

By the way everyone should stay safe. Rather have you around to pick up the pieces of folding after this is over than not.

1) No. Servers can be accessed remotely with the right credentials.
