assign2.foldingathome.org resolves to 18.218.241.186. I'm not sure if 172.31.11.240 listed on Server Status is a label or an alternate IP address for assign2.foldingathome.org.Joe_H wrote:18.218.241.186 is one of the Assignment Servers located in the cloud, hosted on AWS. Do you connect thru a proxy (as is common in a University or a Corporate internet connection0 or directly from home?

I can't catch a WU either. Four Gpus standing by!

BTW Bruce, my offer of server help may be understated. I have a dual 7601 EPYC, a 7742 EPYC, and a 7551 EPYC. They all could help you if things worked out.

I'm getting the same issue with being unable to get any assignments for the last hour.. all I'm getting is messages like:

Re: Client failing to connect to assigned work server
I'm sure the personnel at Stanford and other places are working their fingers to the bone generating work units for us to crunch on, but it seems to take longer to generate a bunch of them before we scarf them up and the work servers run out of the last batch.
I'm don't know how the procedure works but just wait as they are working as fast as they can. They do have to take lunch/bathroom breaks sometimes.

Re: Client failing to connect to assigned work server
I'm seeing those errors as well. The servers are currently drained of workunits due to the unprecedented rate of new users and enthusiasm. They are working as fast as they can to get more in the queue. When they get more in place, you'll likely pick more up. It should be a matter of time, so I'd recommend keeping the software on so you can pick up the work when it becomes available.ClawzSkunk wrote:I'm getting the same issue with being unable to get any assignments for the last hour.. all I'm getting is messages like:

Is it normal to have no available WU's for over 3 hours so far?

After this big influx of new folding participants this weekend, at times my two machines have gone without work for far longer than 3 hours. It is getting better.

Re: Client failing to connect to assigned work server
Thanks Joe, if this is normal then I'm happy to wait and let the computer continue. when I said over 3 hours I meant more like 8 though I can appreciate that there are a lot of people that have signed up recently like myself. I just don't want to be wasting a lot of power with the computer on if it's not being put to use if you know what I mean?
I also wanted to re-assure myself that there wasn't a problem somewhere and that this was normal.

Re: Client failing to connect to assigned work server
I can confirm that I am only getting 2 to 4 WU per day and often have 8 or even 10 hours between WU, sadly.ClawzSkunk wrote:Thanks Joe, if this is normal then I'm happy to wait and let the computer continue. when I said over 3 hours I meant more like 8 though I can appreciate that there are a lot of people that have signed up recently like myself. I think it's because of the algorithm they use to back off the clients, my client seems to only check for work every couple of hours and as soon as it gets an error or has to wait too long for a response it backs off for another couple of hours.
I also read somewhere that their data centre is seeing the sudden increase in clients and communications as a DDOS attack and so the sysadmins are trying to work around that too.
Hopefully it will get sorted sooner rather than later, but in the meantime I am running BOINC/Rosetta concurrently with F@H so my spare cpu time is not wasted.

Re: Client failing to connect to assigned work server
Yep, the client software will gradually back off when it gets errors and unexpectedly can't pick up work. Without this, hundreds of thousands of machines would each be quickly pinging the server for work, which only exacerbates problems when the servers are slammed due to legitimate high demand. So the client software will slowly back off and pick up work when it can.davebodger wrote:I think it's because of the algorithm they use to back off the clients, my client seems to only check for work every couple of hours and as soon as it gets an error or has to wait too long for a response it backs off for another couple of hours.
