GPU Paused: waiting for idle

Post by Schmoleg »

On another topic there was this response but it didn't help:
bruce wrote:In the FAHControl client, go to Configure + Slots + (select 1GPU) + EDIT + (select the line that says "idle true") + remove.

Back out with OK and save. The slot will now run whether your computer is idle or not.
My slot was "idle false" already. And when I removed it nothing changed.

Subject: Temporary server outages - is still an issue.

Not sure what you were reading, Bruce's advice might not apply to what you are trying to do. Post a bit more about your system and the problem you are trying to fix.

I want the GPU to start working. CPU already is.

Not sure which other details to add. So I created a video:

I looked at your video, you still have the power on Light. It will not Fold on the GPU on Light. Try Full for a while and see if that causes you any problems.

Thanks for the answer!

I tried Full and Medium and it went on "Ready".
"Waiting on WS assignment" and it's already had 18 attempts. Why did the CPU get an assignment immediately and the GPU is still waiting for one?

So if it's only on light then the GPU won't work?
On Medium the CPU is at around 90%.
Ideally I would like both the CPU and GPU to work on Light so that I can browse and watch videos while it's working in the background without overloading the PC too much.

In the Advanced Control you can set the number of CPUs to half of what you have, that is what Light does.
As Joe_H posted, F@H got 4 times the number of users over this weekend, so the Work Units were exhausted and the servers are overwhelmed.

Thank you guys for answers.

I got projects for both CPU and GPU. Both for covid btw.

But for some reason in the Task Manager my GPU is from 0-3%. And FaH uses only 0.3% of the GPU at High setting. What's going on?

Task manager is bad at GPUs, better at CPUs

I am very happy with the sensor tab on GPU-Z, that shows me details about what parts are busy in the GPU.
