Server outage causing my client to loop endlessly? (no)

Post by gorgo2005 »

Good day! I successfully installed FaH a few hours ago on my Windows 10 machine and left it running as I retired for the night. It was cranking pretty well when I left it.

I just got up and found the client's browser page was in an endless loop (like it was constantly refreshing itself with no user info present) and I had zero control of it in Google Chrome. I used Control Panel to end the FaH task, and followed directions to reload the browser page. The looping behavior continued.

I also tried uninstalling and re-installing the client. Looping behavior is still happening.

I came here to the forums and saw that there is a temporary server outage due to overwhelming new user response, a good thing! Could this be causing my client to glitch out?

I'm a brand new FaH user/contributor and appreciate any N00b help you can toss my way! Thanks in advance!

Changes made by Google to Chrome a few months ago have resulted in problems running the Web Control, especially if used continuously. For now until a fix can be determined, we recommend trying another browser. If you want to try continuing to use Chrome with Web Control, some people have been able to use it after clearing Chrome's cache.

Another alternative is using the advanced control - FAHControl.

I also just read the post on providing system info to be helpful to potential responders.

Specs: Ryzen 5 2600 6 core-12 thread CPU at 3900MHz, 16GB 3000MHz RAM, ASUS Phoenix 1660Ti GPU OC Edition
Connection: 200+Mbps ethernet connection to AC-class router
OS: Win10 feature set 1809, all patches up to date
Overclocking: Not using, even though the hardware is capable
Stable? As far as I can see, all other processing is normal
Software: V7.5.1
WU Details - can't presently see any while the client is glitched out, I didn't take notes at the time I retired for the night, and it was cranking well and operating properly, as I already said.

Thanks Joe, I will give Firefox a try! I'm guessing I need to uninstall under Chrome, then re-install under FF.

No need to uninstall anything. The web app just connects withe the FAHClient process running in the background on your system.

OK, now running OK under Firefox, not looping, but still not doing any work @ present. Now am I subject to the server outage? My current identity is gorgo2005.

OK, gpu is cranking at about 3%, cpu at 0%, no WU data showing at all. Patience required on my part?

OK, gonna leave to go back to bed. These coronavirus alerts/cancellations are messing with my sleep patterns.

Will leave FAH running as I did before, this time under Firefox. Still no WU data after a number of minutes of otherwise looking like it is working. GPU up to 13.28%, no CPU and no WU stats.

FAHClient should run continuously in the background. You can monitor or control it with WebCotrol (in a browser other than Chrome) or you can use or with the installed program FAHControl. History is maintained in FAH's log (see below) or displayed by FAHControl.

I can't tell what you mean by this title or the recent discussion. Try again.

Thanks Bruce, I put the web control on Firefox and it appears to be working now. I still need to learn about FAHControl, how to invoke, etc. I was also confusing the client with the web control. It was the web control that was glitched.

FWIW, as I read in another thread, the web control also seems to work in a Chrome incognito window (did for me as well (simply copy/paste the url)).

together with incognito mode it also works if you disable cashing when the developer tool is open on chrome, hit F12, then F1 then under network tick the box next to the disable cash, refresh and close everything. That worked for me, unfortunatly you have to open dev tools and refresh every time, but it is another workaround

Considering that chrome is one of the most popular browsers out there it may behove you get a fix. Not everyone is knowledgeable to find a fix on a forum. Mine is now working on firefox as well. People want to help, decreasing the barriers is important.
