GPU working at 4%

Post by NathanJanssens »

Dear all,

I've started folding a few days ago. I noticed that my GPU performance (in the Windows Task Manager) is only at 3-5% while folding.
If there is any way to increase that to say 50%, I would get so much more work done. Can anybody explain me if I can do that and how? I am folding on a computer that I can just turn on and let it run most of the time, but I do need to be able to pause or reduce workload easily every once in a while.

Thanks!

Kind regards,
Nathan

Welcome to the folding support forum.

To see the compute load on your GPU in Task Manager you need to use the right options, otherwise you just see the load associated with the CPU. Someone who uses Windows may come along and post the options you need to use.

Other GPU monitoring tools such as GPU-Z will directly report the load.

Windows Task Manager change GPU from 3D to Compute to see FAH gpu load

Thank you both for your helphul comments. I did both of these things and managed to see my GPU performance was actually upwards of 90%. I guess I won't be able to speed things up even more, but I will be doing all I can.

The 90% may vary when you get a different assignment. What GPU is it? What Project are you running? and What does GPU-z show?

How does one do that? I know about selecting columns in Task Manager but I cannot figure this one out.

A-ha. Task Manager-Performance tab then click on the GPU graph. And then the dropdown menu of one of the GPU stat graphs. I was mistakenly looking for a column on the Processes and Details tabs.

Mine is in the same range but it is hitting Cuda Cores @ 100%, nothing on Compute.

The CUDA cores (aka shaders) are doing the computational work associated with FAHCore_xx passed to them using OpenCL.
