Does this just mean nothing currently needs working on?
Yep, the servers are having a hard time keeping up with all the new participants. Be patient & keep the F@H software running - it will keep trying to download work on a regular basis. All of my GPUs have experienced idle times over the last day or so, but they have all eventually gotten more work to do.
Thanks for the answer guys, was just about to open another topic about the same error.
You should be prepared, NVIDIA just release an statement to the gamer community to help with Corona and other diseases reasearch. Me and about 30 friends from a game group installed the application today, so if there's something that the developers could do to 'fix' this issue, they should do because mostly of the gamer community will start to help with this.
I'm beginning to suspect that FAHClient and the Assignment Servers aren't doing and optimum job of checking all servers for an assignment. Has anybody who is hung trying to get work tried rebooting ... or even stopping/restarting FAHClient?
HaloJones, they will help, let the researchers analysis the new batch of data and make available new ones.
At least I found a good thing to do with my computer when it's idle in the future.
Their servers aren't expecting so many requests in a single day.
People are saying a job that would took days to be done just take a few hours.
And that's a great thing.

I haven't tried actually rebooting; I have tried pausing & unpausing the client to get it to check more frequently, but that didn't seem to have any immediate effect. I don't currently have any idle GPUs, but next time I have one I'll experiment a bit.

Yes! I am on Windows10 and latest version client. That connected me to a different server and gave me some more WUs.

To preclude a Reboot/Restart or waiting for the next periodic update cycle to get a new WU just do a Pause, wait for Folding Slots to switch from Ready to Paused by user, wait for about one minute then select Fold to attempt to get a new WU. When Folding Slots shows Ready then check Log to see if new WU is being downloaded and starting to process. Processing on a Mac Pro with OS V10.13.6. This technique just got me a 14328 (8, 2492, 4) WU from Work Server 155.247.164.214 and going to Collection Server 155.247.166.220 --- TPF = 27 seconds
