Download Bug Happening Again (*.220)

Just woke up to two machines stuck again (4 slots) - is this a bug in the client? From the behavior it seems that sometimes it doesn't give up the download after the connection has been going too long without any progress to try another server. Would be nice if there was a way to manually abort a download/WU - is it possible to do this via telnet?

Yes, it's a bug in the client since first versions of v7 (not detecting timeouts correctly) ... but it always have a trigger cause that's not related to the client (it could be the server, your network connection, ...).

And there's no easy way to terminate a network connection like you would do with a blocked program in Task Manager. The only way is to restart FAH client (or the whole machine since a blocked connection will prevent the client process from exiting cleanly).

I have had this problem many times over the past year and after trying the 'restart client' approach I ultimately end up restarting my rework to resolve the issue.
These are Win7 and Win10 Pro machines.
Recently I've started using the Linux client with Mint 19.3 more and more. There are far fewer, if any, instances of this problem in my experience utilizing the Linux client.

I have previously had the problem several times on my Ubuntu 18.04 machines, but not this time. Several times they have used the .220 server, though I have not kept close track.
I am now on Ubuntu 18.04.4 if it matters.

Yes. A new client is being developed (but I have no idea when it will be ready.) This has been listed as a known problem for quite a while. Hopefully the developer will address each of the known bugs rather than simply replacing this client with one that has been rewritten from scratch.

I am more and more coming to the conclusion that the latest generation needs to be returned to the "old" system of "kick butt and take names". Meritocracy has a lot of value, "participation trophies" not so much. My Fedora client has been getting stuck for the past week when downloading from 155.247.166.220 and the cleanest way to 'fix' the problem so far has been to reboot. I will investigate how to block that address in my router.
Now I find out my router can't actually do THAT activity.

As near as I can tell, Joseph Coffland writes the client code, the server code and the stats code but not the Cores. He is Cauldron Development. He has to keep the servers and the clients in sync, it makes no sense to add a feature in one that has no support in the others. The way to write excellent code is to keep writing until it is done. Not rush it out.

2nd-time FAH failed to completely download work. Failed yesterday and now it's today and got no work. Restarted FAH and got new work. Back to normal.
Poor internet... Yes. FAH not retrying... Definitely. Eather it needs a retry the same work or start over with a back off in minutes timer.
As you can see in the log. It started on the 27th at 03:18 and now it's the 28th.

Any word on if server 155.247.166.220 has been fixed so that it stops hanging during the download process. I would like to know if its safe for me to remove the network block I placed on it. I haven't been having any problems connecting to server 140.163.4.241, but I would like to have as many options open for getting WUs.

The campus support people are still trying to figure out what's causing it. Apparently the server doesn't report the error either.

I am running FAH only on my GPUs on two WIN 10 desktops. One sometimes finishes a work unit, uploads the results then will not seek a new WU. Nothing I have tried will get it to work except restarting my computer. I've tried pause then fold, quitting then restarting with no luck. Reloading the software did not fix it. Below is part of my last log. It includes time when FAH worked as usual followed by stopping after "cleaning up" later pause then fold command.

This is very similar to other download errors reported against server *.220. The server is still having those problems, There's one fundamental difference, though. You interrupted the client to make changes. That SHOULD NOT have any efffect on the download processing, but there's also the chance you've uncovered a bug at that point.
