The messages in the log of "Received short response" and the associated failures to connect and get assignments, etc. indicate the downloads are being blocked by anti-malware installed on your computer or possibly network. The folding client uses HTTP for these downloads like a browser, some anti-malware or firewall settings will block such connections if they are not from a known browser such as Firefox, Internet Expplorer, or Chrome. An exception will need to be added to allow the FAHClient process to do downloads and uploads using http over ports 80 and 8080.
I tried to connect it to another Wifi and it works.
Now I can see that it uses only the CPU. I read all the GPUs.txt updated file and can't find my graphic card model. Is this why it don't uses the GPU?
Your CPU is listed in the log as being an i7-6600U. A low power CPU like that usually is utilized in power efficient laptops, often just using the integrated graphics for the display. The Folding client can not use the Intel integrated GPU for folding, just the CPU part of the processor. If you have a separate GPU, from nVidia or AMD that can potentially be used for folding.
Okay, so your laptop also has an AMD Radeon R7 M360. It probably was not seen by the installer for the folding client if it happened to be inactive at the time. Some people have managed to get laptops with dual GPU's in this kind of arrangement to fold on the higher powered GPU by disabling use of the low power integrated GPU. This can be tricky, if the laptop power management switches back to the iGPU in the middle of a WU being processed, the processing will crash.
In your case it probably will not be possible to use your M360 for folding. What information I can find indicates it does not support double precision calculations, that is needed for all current GPU projects. I did not find any explicit info that DP was not available, but did not find anything indicating it was.
OK Some ideas.
the notebook may very well switch between the Intel HD 520 and the AMD R7 M360. F@H will crash every time they switch. You would need to force the AMD card to be on whenever you are plugged in. (Dual Graphics or Switchable Graphics may be buzzwords)
https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeo ... 637.0.html Hints it is a low performance, but foldable GPU. (I find Double Precision on the desktop part, but no hint on the mobile part)
It is always dangerous with laptops not to go with the Dell drivers, but the latest may be 2015, while AMD has more modern drivers https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics ... on-r7-m360
I think you will be disappointed, but I just provide the links and let you decide.
Tsar of all the Rushers
I tried to remain childlike, all I achieved was childish.
A friend to those who want no friends
I tried installing the latest Dell drivers but FAH still see the GPU with a warning.
The System Info page says:
... GPUs 1 GPU 0 Bus:1 Slot:0 Func:0 AMD:5 Mars [Radeon R7 M260/M265/M270]
Not detected: Failed to open dynamic library 'nvcuda.dll': could not find the specified module CUDA
...
I read the nvcuda.dll file isn't necessary for AMD graphic cards but it was for FAH to run. Am I right? What should I do?
The CUDA dll is not needed if you do not have a nVidia GPU. The message is merely an informative one, not marked as a Warning or Failure. If you read somewhere that it was necessary anyways, please let us know where and we can see about having that corrected if it is on one of the F@h sites.
If you did get to the point where the client was configured with a GPU slot and it failed processing a WU. please post that log section. The GPU might be misidentified in the GPUs.txt file as capable of double precision. The categories AMD GPU's were put in used to be done by which series they were released in, that has turned out to not match the capabilities needed for folding. Many need to be recategorized and that is a manual process based on what is found when someone tries to fold on one.
I don't know what the GPU exactly is, but it's a mess between GPU Name and Codenames ... but the only common thing in these mobile GPUs is that they don't support DP and shouldn't be listed as species 5 ...
Folding@Home beta tester since 2002. Folding Forum moderator since July 2008.
The Species 4/5 distinction for DP support applies to NV. The AMD GPUs are still classified by model number. We should change that and then coordinate it with the PIs.
Species 5 for NV is totally unrelated to Species 5 for AMD.
