Old "OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found" issue
I've reinstalled drivers and restarted. Now I have to wait for the active WU to finish, reboot just to test again, and then re-install the program and wipe WU data. Why do I have this strange issue, never had it before and I've been running the program for several years now.
Re: Old "OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found" issue
You might need a driver update. For some reason opencl doesnt work after some driver updates. I had a similar issue and reinstalled drivers to fix

Re: Old "OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found" issue
Maybe post your FAH logfile to see what is going wrong?
Re: Old "OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found" issue
The logfile is critical to our ability to make good recommendations. Without it, we have to guess.
One guess: If you allowed WindowsUpdate to update your GPU drivers, it probably did not reinstall OpenCL. Getting drivers directly from NVidia/AMD is generally recommended.

Re: Old "OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found" issue
Yes I've read about Windows update drivers not being the same, how stupid is that?! So I've got 440. whatever for the "game ready drivers" and I get the following log from a freshly installed folding at home setup with zero changes other than starting the GPU because it starts out on medium.

Re: Old "OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found" issue
Someone else has already reported having problems with the version 440 drivers, installing an older non-game ready version fixed things up. Try the ;latest WHQL driver downloaded directly from nVidia

Re: Old "OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found" issue
Alright, I have a folder for GPU drivers (I download them manually for Nvidia, don't want the slowness of Gefore Experience Program) and so I've got several for this year, and I'll try the drivers from August: version 430.64. I'll finish the GPU (they like to be dumped or just erased when I restart) work unit, and update tomorrow.

Re: Old "OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found" issue
This topic is where the problem with the "game ready" 440 driver was reported - viewtopic.php?f=80&t=31950. Later in the topic it is mentioned that nVidia has since released an updated WHQL version of that driver, no report yet on whether that works for folding.

Re: Old "OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found" issue
440.97 works, if you find the original 440 issue, he was using an insider version, not a WHQL certified version.

[Solved Old drivers] "OpenCL device matching not found" issu
Well for me 440.97 does NOT work. I just started to uninstall my drivers, but noticed the driver version, and so I even took a picture of it so that you know I'm being honest. I think it was the certified driver, unless there are two different 440.97 drivers.
I'm going to revert to the older ones and report back.
After I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers, I rebooted and received this error: "The code execution cannot proceed because OpenCL.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program max fix this problem."
I'm going to reinstall both AMD and Nvidia drivers now. AMD drivers first since they are still installed and may contain OpenCL stuff. Then I'll reinstall the AMD drivers (an updated version) and then the Nvidia stuff.
19.10.1 (Optional) on the AMD driver update choice, and the August driver for Nvidia 430.64.
Turns out Windows was installing 388.xx drivers on the Nvidia side RIGHT AFTER I rebooted and had uninstalled the Nvidia drivers. So I went into Device Manager and deleted the driver software for that device, and also changed "Advanced System Settings" / Hardware tab / "device installation settings" and changed the settings to "No". Now I understand the issue, and others can too.

Re: Old "OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found" issue
WindowsUpdate dictates a minimum version number for whatever device the desktop is going to display on. Then it's a matter of finding OpenCL -- either a version that came with the NVidida driver or something from khronos.org/
What I usually do is go to https://www.geforce.com/drivers and install the recommended WHQL version >= whatever windows has installed. You do need to specify your NVidia device since specific versions do not work with other devices. That version also installs a specific version of CUDA and certain versions of OpenCL run on top of specific versions of CUDA. By starting this way, many of the potential conflicts are avoided.
(I have two different NV GPUs and at one time, it was difficult to find the same version of NV drivers that worked with both of them.)
I don't have AMD GPUs in the same machine so I avoid some of the potential driver issues that might arise from one more set of potential incompatibilities.
