What is your definition of "locks up machine"?
Are there any messages?
Is it just the GUI screen? (Can you open a text window?)

Total lock up, the machine is still on but the system will not wake from sleep and the keyboard is non responsive, screen is totally blank but bizarrely the monitor wakes up. There's nothing in either the F@H log or the Linux system logs that tells me something is amiss, I just have hfm reporting 0 PPD, I go to the machine and totally non responsive.

I'm not sure what it is, i'm thinking I have a piece of hardware that's failing but with no log info its hard to tell

Others have reported that the Assignment Servers were down earlier. (A suggested fact that I cannot confirm or deny.)

See a couple of discussions from earlier today.

As best as I can tell, none of the AS's were actually down. What was down was one of the WS's with GPU projects, and one AS got stuck assigning WU requests to it even though it was down. That took an hour or two to correct, and the WS for the GPU projects has since been restarted. This should not have affected CPU work assignments.
