Gen2 x8 = Gen3 x4. If it is a pcie bus speed limitation then replacing Windows by Linux should help.

A given x16 slot may not be communicating at x16 (and it may be different versions of PCIe which move data at different speeds). For example, if you use one GPU, you'll probably get x16 speed. If you use two GPUs (and depending on the motherboard) a less expensive mother board may run each x8 or at x16 and x8 or .... depending on the total number of lanes supported. I've seen my 1070 post over 800k PPD in HFM when running certain projects, however its average PPD is just over 600k PPD. You probably have 1 gpu that is getting a fairly steady stream of high scoring WU, at some point it will drop back to its usual range, for now enjoy the additional points.ryoungblood wrote:Okay. PCIe 2.0 x16 gives the same performance as PCIe 3.0 x8 and there is usually only 1 or 2 seconds per frame between 2.0 x16 and 3.0 x16. So, it's been a while since I posted here, but I thought it may be time for an update. In folding for Curecoin/Foldingcoin I made enough BTC (~$2,500 in 3 months) to justify a purchase of a new folding rig. Since my last post I've replaced one of my 1070 with a 1080 Ti and added another 1080 Ti to my CMD machine (I found out my motherboard actually supports a third PCIe device @ 3.0 x4).
So I'm now up to roughly ~5.3M PPD on my current 3 systems and the new system should eventually pull in another 4.4 to 4.8M PPD. I went with a system that supports 4 PCIe 3.0 @ x8. Out of the gate I'll have one MSI 1080 Ti FE and a Aorus 1080 Ti. I'll eventually fill the other two slots with a 1080 Ti once I mine more CURE/FLDC. All in all I hope to be really close to 10M PPD in the next 30 days.

I'm able to pull 1.2M PPD from a 1080 Ti card on 3.0 x8. The new rig will have 4 1080 Ti, so I estimate total PPD output between 4.4M to 4.8M. Right now I have a 1070 in the 2.0 x4. I read that the soon-to-be-relased Core 22 will use CUDA on Nvidia cards and will offer 20% improvement in performance over Core 21.
