As you can see I am not running CPU slot, and Core 21 is using max 60% of CPU.
I checked with HWinfo to see if CPU is downclocking, but the clocks are stable.
I enabled High Performance power mode and the GPU slot is set to full.
Also, no other acitvity except folding is going on that machine.
I am not seeing such waves on my Sandy Bridge machine with Nvidia 970, the GPU utilization hovers around 90% constantly on it.
Motherboard is http://www.intel.com/content/dam/suppor ... odspec.pdf, and has PCIE x16 slot, albeit Gen1, since its almost 15yrs old.
What could be the cause of those waves?
Also, there is this single error, I have no idea what it means.

The work units do checkpointing every 5 to 15 min.
In your screenshot how long is the time we see in the graph 1h or ?
Can you also post a graph of CPU load and RAM usage while GPU usage is high and low?

GPUZ image posted previously had graph length of 2 minutes so it looks pretty drastic.

The drops are still there, sometimes going all the way down to 60%, just look at the same graph on my Sandy Bridge machine and Nvidia 970: http://imgur.com/a/pUxHN no major drops to be seen.
So something is definitely wrong with that other machine.

Hmm, that's not a pattern I've seen before, but as previous posters have suggested, system memory usage might be a good shout.
2 GB on Windows isn't a lot for meaty GPU projects and I suspect you'll see some interesting paging issues when a 6 GB GPU wants to start shuffling data around. I think nvidia recommend 8 GB ram for the latest gpus and drivers.

No difference changing priority.
I am not complaining though, GPU-Z told me that 1060 has UEFI support and that such cards will not boot on computers without UEFI bios.
It does boot without problem on my ancient motherboard

Persons running the larger GPU projects have reported the CPU portion of the folding core taking more than 2 GB of RAM to handle processing WU's. This was especially noted during the beginning of processing as the core prepares the WU data to be sent to the GPU. What numbers are reported for VM usage by the folding core and it might be also useful to know how much paging/swapping is being reported by the system.

It seems that buying 64-bit P4 for 3 dollars and installing 64-bit OS was not such a good idea.
Anyway, regarding my problem: I still have not found the solution, even after installing everything in 32-bit flavor.
I did found out that running FF with hardware acceleration lowers GPU utilization even more, but I guess thats old news.
Will watch pagefile usage and report back if it goes over current 200MB.

Why is "bad allocation" happening?
Notice that I deleted core21.exe after the first error popped up, and got this "failed to create directory" error showed up. But it managed to download new core nonetheless.
I am able to complete core18 WU only.
Could it be because of this:

I did delete both cpu and gpu slots initially and added gpu slot manually, now the IDs are not matching.
Could that be the problem?
Yesterday I was not having trouble with core21 WUs.
Then I reinstalled windows (this time 32-bit version, see reason two posts above), and installed newest gpu driver. Thats all the difference.
I have been reading forums and it to me that issues with core 21 WU have been fixed, so I guess the problem is on my side.
If somebody has an idea please share.
Maybe this "failed to create directory" or mismatching IDs are the problem?

I did found out that running FF with hardware acceleration lowers GPU utilization even more, but I guess thats old news.

Actually, that's a good thing. Most people choose hardware acceleration OFF (i.e.- redirect the processing of screen updates to the GPU which MS assumes will be idle). Microsoft assumes using the GPU will give a faster response to screen updates so their default choice is ON.

The operating system has two choices: Doing screen video rasterization on the GPU or on the CPU. When Windows increases it's use of the GPU, you can expect FAH to slow down. Windows is capable of using the CPU for rasterization (i.e.- for systems without a GPU). Using the CPU should cause fewer GPU delays for FAH and you may see a difference in the speed of a screen refresh or the playing of a video.
