The brand name doesn't matter. AMD and ATI are the same. (If you go to either website, you get to the same place.)

No need for two discussions about the same topic : thread "Amd rx 480 now released" merged into "AMD Polaris GPU" one ...

Fahbench of RX 480 shows it has same performance as GTX 980 or R9 Nano at 150 watts for 250$.
Edit: Other Chart which is more easy to read and uses FahBench 2.2.5

Custom Versions will be overclockable by 20% and then use 200 watts.

There are some rumors the pcie slot power usage would be over the specs and could be a problem.
But I don't think so and custom design cards could get an adapted bios or 8pin instead of 6pin power connector to solve this if it is an issue.

It doesn't make me dream ... but they definitely should upgrade their FAHBench to a more modern version ... :(

It does not make a difference if using FahBench 1.2 or 2.2 for ns/day numbers even if Core_21 has improvements over Core_17 for real world work units.
Edit: I updated the chart to one which usese FahBench 2.2.5
For dreams maybe RX 490 will be next this year :-)
Currently the most attractive part is the price compared to gtx 980 or r9 nano.
Although I expect their prices to fall soon also when gtx 1060 is released maybe in July.

Even though the specification allows for a delivery capability of 75 W (six-pin connector) or 150 W (eight-pin connector), the total power-handling capacity of these connectors is at least 192 and 288 W, respectively, using standard terminals, and even more using the HCS or Plus HCS terminals.

Looking at early reports are saying around 300k ppd for the 480 which is kind of dissapointing considering the floating point performance of the 480 is similar to the 980ti. From threads I have read I think this is allot to do with optimazations around amd cards is lacking in compared to nvidia am I right in thinking this and what are your thoughts for the 480 for f@h as when I compared it to my old zotac 970 the 480 has the same ppd and performance

If you have 250$ to spend for a gpu then you can now choose if you want a gtx 970 or rx 480. So between AMD and Nvidia it is equal in performance and watts.

If you have 500$ to spend then it is the gtx 1070.

I would NOT get a AMD RX 480 anytime soon!

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/4 ... ification/

People have already reported PCI-E slots failing. Not to mention the card pulling much more power than originally stated. I was going to buy two of them for the price but alas will stick with Nvidia.

IMHO, having read most of the reddit discussion, this might be the straw that broke AMD's back (if they hadn't already been on a losing trend vs. NVidia).

I'm in favor of healthy competition, but fixing this issue may bankrupt AMD.

@Sn1ken: Can you measure the power usage while folding with rx 480 compared to not folding?

My wattmeter was showing 115W draw from wall.
