Looks like it may have been just out of work. It is now using 95%-100% cpu. It's not folding at home app using the cpu it looks like the worker program is libgcomp_code.so turning off folding dropped the cpu usage so it must be tied together. I turned folding back on it takes a while to get it working again maybe 2 minutes. Hopefully they have enough work units to give the android client a good test to see if it's worth while to push it further into the android TV and GPU's on the phone. Should be well over the 150,000 "phone days" for a paper by now I look forward to skimming through it.

Sony client for Mobile phones (ARM)

Post by muziqaz »

HI, been long time.
Where can I find thread if there is any on this forum for this client.
For those in the dark: Pande Group just released a Client for mobile phones. For the moment I think it is just Android.

The thing is that client is so basic and pretty useless for us hardcore folders, as it is designed to not fold at all it seems :D
Anyway, if there is any other thread on here, I would gladly go there to give few suggestions to devs. I have Nexus 5 which is from tomorrow is not gonna do anything, so I thought it could fold. Unfortunately folding client tries to avoid folding in any chance it gets :D

If you have a support question, there was another thread on this already. If you have feedback for Pande Group about this client, do that on /r/FoldingAtHome. https://www.reddit.com/r/foldingathome/ ... id_client/

Option B for me would be using the Chrome NACL page, but of course Chrome mobile doesn't support this quite yet, that would be a good way to gauge the speed and get some points.

It would be interesting to see how much compute power is being contributed by Android in aggregate. I would think that
while not huge it is nonetheless meaningful.

Sony estimated that 500,000 mobile devices would double F@H's performance.

No idea. The Android client was written by Sony in collaboration with PG, any client for another mobile device would probably need a similar sponsor.

And this means that there is now open source code for Android?

I do not know if Sony has released any of the code used for the Android client. The Github site has code trees for the regular client and the NaCl client for Chrome. The folding cores themselves remain closed source.
