Project 8018

Post by RJ21440 »

Is there a reason why work unit 8018 only awards 5757 credits regardless of completion time.

Other work units award extra credits for early completion but with 8018 this does not seem to be the case.

Yes, Project 8018 and the 7 other Core_15 projects were started at a time when GPU projects did not get a Quick Return Bonus. The decision was made by PG to not add QRB to these projects, only ones using the newer GPU folding cores issued afterwards. If you want to discuss the policy issue, that can be done on the official reddit to communicate with PG - https://www.reddit.com/r/foldingathome. The policy has been raised there a couple times.

Can someone point me to where it explains how cores are issues to GPU's? On my 750 TI I was getting Core 17 WU's (I think) with great PPD and now I'm on the 8018 all the sudden. I always assumed that fast GPUs would get the higher PPD WU's.

Simple. Pande Group sets the WU assignment priorities on their servers. We get what they send us. And if they need project X work done, that is what gets sent. It may not be optimal for our hardware, but it is the optimal choice for their science.
