1M Donators

Post by DocJonz »

According to my Stats is morning, my donator rank as XX out of 1,000,127 - does this mean there are/have been 1M donators?
(I have a feeling that the number is not related to the number of people but the number of PC's, and might be even more convoluted than that ... can someone shed some light on how this figure is attained?)

I'm going to guess it's the total number of all donor accounts, including anonymous accounts.

Because on this page... http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/mai ... pe=osstats it lists this stat...

Total number of non-Anonymous donators = 998912

For comparison, the other two numbers which are related more to the number of PCs than to the number of donators, are given here:
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/mai ... pe=osstats

Total number of client software installations = 3 048 127
(This used to be the number of PCs, back when there was only one CPU in a PC.)

Total number of active clients = 309 905

The totals should be taken with a huge grain of salt. The current are the numbers you should look at.

For example, I'm probably responsible for a hundred or so of the CPU total, since I do complete install/uninstall cycles on several machines for testing (with the new installers this isn't needed anymore). I'm also 6 user IDs.

On the other hand, most other distributed projects report only their totals, so at least we're honest about how many we have!

i'm responsible for about 15 of CPU installs. Those virgin Vista installs on new hard drives eat up the CPU count, partically when you try SMP, can't meet the deadlines, and drop back to a pair of "classic" CPU clients.

I was as high as 50-something, but will stabalize under 10 soon. My dual had 8 different cpu clients and several installs of SMP and GPU1. 2 cores, counted 15 times.
Proud to crash my machines as a Beta Tester!
