Restricting maxwell core18
Given some known driver issues with recent NVIDIA maxwell chips and Core18 (https://www.reddit.com/r/foldingathome/ ... l_support/), we are temporarily restricting our core18 projects (e.g. 1047*) to use pre-maxwell GPUs. I'll be making the changes Friday morning. Hopefully this restriction will be a temporary fix, with full maxwell support in the future.

Re: Restricting maxwell core18
Hopefully we have enough 9201 to crunch and it take not much time for nV to deploy a revised version ...

Re: Restricting maxwell core18
Does this mean that the "workaround" code for the NV bug will be removed from Core_18?
Thus (hopefully) making it easier to produce a Linux version which will be ready to go when nVidia get their act together

Re: Restricting maxwell core18
For now, the core version will stay the same. Eventually we hope that the workaround will no longer be necessary.

Re: Restricting maxwell core18
Not seen any changes yet on a couple of GTX 970's - did P91xx's get included in this restriction?

Happy New Year everyone and thanks to Kyle for getting me up to speed on whats been happening. I have restricted 9104-9114 Core 18 projects to be pre-Maxwell as well. Cheers!

Excellent - Well I think that is a positive start to GPU Folding in 2015.
We now just need to finish off the rest of the (EOL) Core 15 WU's ....

Maybe ... maybe not. WUs should be assigned based on both availability and on priority. If there are currently no high-priority WUs available for whatever reason, does it make more sense to assign a low-priority WU or to give a message saying no WUs are available? As long as there's still important scientific value in collecting more low-priority data, then shouldn't it be happening?DocJonz wrote:We now just need to finish off the rest of the (EOL) Core 15 WU's ....
Of course there are a lot of unknowns about the future. Once FAH's Streaming Infrastructure is rolled out, almost anything can happen but I think it's fair to assume the current infrastructure will remain in place, at least for a long time.

Re: Restricting maxwell core18
I do not know that that is a fair statement, The problem is a NVidia driver issue not a F@H issue I do not think PG can do anything about it in this case.SwingOp3 wrote:Well, that's an awesome start to the new year!msultan wrote:Happy New Year everyone and thanks to Kyle for getting me up to speed on whats been happening. I understand that it is a driver issue but the fact that PG made a move like this is encouraging to me for all users.Grandpa_01 wrote:I do not know that that is a fair statement, The problem is a NVidia driver issue not a F@H issue I do not think PG can do anything about it in this case.SwingOp3 wrote:Well, that's an awesome start to the new year!msultan wrote:Happy New Year everyone and thanks to Kyle for getting me up to speed on whats been happening. Re: Restricting maxwell core18
As one who has purchased a GTX980 strictly for folding, I am extremely pleased at this adjustment. The last 19 workunits I've received for my 980 averaged 36,000 and 39,000 every two and a half hours, consistently over 300,000 points per day with a very fast turnover.
The first week I had my 980 it was producing at the same rate but then the new workunits arrived and production plummeted to the point that I almost quit folding entirely. I bought the GTX980, a GTX760, and a GTX770 all during the two months prior to the disaster.
Since I am retired living on Social Security and a very small pension those three video cards were a MAJOR investment for me and I was really offended by the points decrease by those workunits on the 980.

And i by 3 more 980, i will then have 11 980 and 5 970. 100% 24/7 FAH.
