Thank you for returning 171.67.108.11 to full service. However, I am still unable to upload finished work units to 171.67.108.21. The server status is showing a zero for all data fields except CPU load.
I'm the same farmpuma from years gone by, but it appears my account went away when the passwords changed to six characters minimum.

Please post the log showing the failing upload(s) to 171.67.108.21.

Is it possible that the WUs you're having trouble with have expired? When were they initially downloaded?

I downloaded them before the server went down. And yes, two of them have now expired, but had not at the time I first attempted to upload them.

This one will expire in twenty-two hours and just now failed to upload -

Code: Select all

Just a heads up if the mods are still on this, but the .11 server has gone into reject mode as of 7/15. Also, the .25 CS is refusing connections.

Maybe related also, but both my GPU's are sitting idle and getting empty work server assignment errors: 19:38:45:WARNING:WU04:FS01:Failed to get assignment from 'assign-GPU.stanford.edu:8080': Empty work server assignment

We're working on this machine. It's been giving trouble in general since it's quite old and it's probably soon time to retire it.

The timing is pretty good since we have a heatwave here in west south of France ;)

Can you make an announcement if you decide to retire the server (and probably the G8x/G9x from active service) so that we don't expect for nothing ?

error: 171.67.108.25 actively refusing connections

Post by Nick200 »

Hi

I am getting the following error message:
08:43:16:ERROR:WU02:FS01:Exception: Failed to connect to 171.67.108.25:80: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it
It's been over a day now.

I am unable either to upload completed assignments or download new work units. I can post the log details if that helps.

I cannot see the server listed on the Server Status page, which is odd.

Any clues from the cognoscenti?

Thanks

Nick

Can't help with the reason it's not connecting, but:

It's the collection server for 171.67.108.12. Hover over the blue "i" icon under "CS" in the header row and the "IP2" icon in that server's entry.

171.67.108.25 was last an active CS several years ago. It is one that is on the list not to be reported given in this post - viewtopic.php?f=18&t=17794#p161539 - as part of the troubleshooting topic at the top of this sub-forum for problems with specific servers. Return of the WU's from 171.67.108.11 will need to wait for it to come back into service.

As for Server Status page, there appear to have been some recent code changes for generating the page. Early on only some SMP and Classic WS's were showing last week, now everything except AS's and CS's show. One improvement to me is that now the servers are sorted by IP address. Hopefully the rest of the servers will be added back at some point in the future.

Post by Joe_H »

Other than Dr. Pande's post earlier on this page, no ETA is available. 171.67.108.11 appears to be the last server with projects and WU's for the older nVidia GPU's that use Core_11, and they were listed as end of life last August - https://folding.stanford.edu/home/remin ... -core78-2/. My guess based on previous experience with older projects and servers is that PG will make a "best effort" to fix the server if possible. What is involved in the current outage has not been announced.

As for the CS, that being out of service is far enough in the past that I don't recall details. Something about updates to server code being incompatible with older projects is the best that I can remember. It will not be back as a CS for these projects though as I recall from discussion here in the forum.

As for your system sitting idle, depending on what it has for a CPU it may be possible to put it back to work on that kind of project.

Thanks for letting us know Joe_H

To the others reading...
I've just thrown out a GTX 260 and swapped a GTX 560Ti from one rig (same power usage), and guess I'll retire my laptop which has a Quadro 5100M. Old cards have kinda gone the way of Bitcoin mining I guess, not as many FLOPS or SHA#'s for your power bill compared to more modern cards . I'll leave my WUs "sending" for another couple of weeks I guess. After which I will assume the CS isn't ever coming back online and just dump them.

My point being - A more modern card will generate you more PPD credits and possibly save you a few dollars on your power bill.

Maybe Santa Claus will come early this year with a couple of GTX 780 Ti's... or maybe some Radeon R9 290X's. Still ... start making a list guys (and gals), it's only 156 days til Christmas :)

That's a good plan unless the laptop is going to be running anyway.

Note that the CS may not come back, but the primary work server might. Either one will do:
