Hello fellow folders.....Long history short: I decided to reuse a HP netbook to do light folding by the nights. Installed client 7.4.4 via express install....Right now I had lost 5 units, because the client is configured with the option "dump-after-deadline". So I want to dissable that option, giving more time to the netbook to finish (I suppose I can go until "Final deadline" to dump the WU).
So I appreciate and thanks in advance for some method, recipe or procedure to dissable the aforementioned option......
The 7x client should dump automatically only after the final deadline. The first deadline, should not cause an automatic dump. That being said there is a extra client option dump-after-deadline that you can set to false in the expert tab of the advanced control. Can't say that I've ever played with it, but I'll assume that its function is self-evident.
Hardware configuration: Intel i7-4770K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR3-2133 Corsair Vengence (black/red), EVGA GTX 760 @ 1200 MHz, on an Asus Maximus VI Hero MB (black/red), in a blacked out Antec P280 Tower, with a Xigmatek Night Hawk (black) HSF, Seasonic 760w Platinum (black case, sleeves, wires), 4 SilenX 120mm Case fans with silicon fan gaskets and silicon mounts (all black), a 512GB Samsung SSD (black), and a 2TB Black Western Digital HD (silver/black).
Please look up the WUs on psummary and confirm whether they're being deleted at the "Preferred Deadline" or the "Final Deadline. They SHOULD be deleted at the final deadline since after the WU actually expires, the server will not accept it
My bad.....Not read the updated posts and went to the Expert settings....I manually enter the "dump-after-deadline" option and set it to "false". And I am confirming I am getting the WUs dumped in the "Prefered Deadline", not the final one.
I will wait and see. If the manual input works, I will report back. If not, I will report it too. In the worst case scenario, I will lost another WU and 3 or so nights of light folding. And will have to do a reinstall of 7.4.4.....
For your Netbook, with its limited CPU I think I would like to direct you towards the Chrome NaCl client as opposed to the standard v7.4.4 client.
The NaCl client uses very small WU's that will finish far before anything the v7 client will ever give you. It works much better for low-end CPU's or part-time folders.
Thanks to P5 and bruce for the insight................I would like to run the NaCl in the Netbook. Tried it maybe a month ago. But not so impressed by the speed. So I decided after read these valuable Forums, to use one normal laptop only for NaCl and the Netbook only for the normal client. The rationale behind this setup is that running only the NaCl in the normal laptop gives a stable flux of points, no depending in what WUs I got. I can live with 1000-2000 points per month in the Netbook, running it only in the nights........
But still, the suggestion is sound and valid. Would be tempted if in some rewriting the NaCl gets, said a 25% more speed in the Netbook.....
I do not understand the need for 25% more speed reference. They run at the speed that your netbook is capable of. Faster CPU's finish the WU's faster. Are they expiring like the v7 WU's do on your netbook?
Did you move the slider from medium (the default) to full?
Consider FAH (both V7 and NaCL) to be a benchmark, except that it does useful work. It runs just as fast as your hardware can do the required calculations. It is designed to use ALL of the unused resources. Like P5 says, you have no unused capability that could be used to run it 25% faster unless you buy a computer that is 25% faster.
Answering to P5, the WUs are not dumped in the NaCl like the normal client.....Only painfully slow, even for the Netbook (just my observation/feeling). Slider is set to medium too.....
The 25% more speed is based in a theory from me. Nothing more. I only envision/suppose that a rewrite in the code can make the NaCl even more efficient, ergo, attaining more speed/processing power. Totally understand the fact that more powerful hardware make speedier calculations....

No, the NaCl client is not more efficient rather it is just different for a different market. It has two major design goal. First, It is designed for the low-end CPU and the part-time folder that can not complete a normal v7 WU in time. The second is to lower the barriers of entry to folding by making the user interface as simple as possible.
Agree with 7im, move the slider to from medium to full and you will get more than a 25% speed increase
