8018 ad infinitum
For the last couple of days, the only GPU WUs I've been getting are from Project 8018. Have the GPU projects dried up?

Re: 8018 ad infinitum
Obviously not all of them have dried up. Your client is still getting work.
Same as always, PG determines what we fold and we fold it. Might be the same project for weeks at a time. Might be different projects for weeks at a time. All depends on what they need.

Re: 8018 ad infinitum
All I can say is that for individuals, projects often run in streaks. I've never seen a good explanation as to why for v7, but it seems to be a truism. Unfortunately your current streak is an older non-QRB p8018.

Re: 8018 ad infinitum
I was glad to read that… I noticed this morning that all 5 of my cpu clients are running P9006, and the GPU has been getting P8900 ever since I installed it (just over a week ago).P5-133XL wrote:All I can say is that for individuals, projects often run in streaks.
Re: 8018 ad infinitum
You can always switch your NVidia cards over to linux, then you will only get core 17 (QRB) WUs

Easy explanation. It has nothing to do with the client, or some myth about clients sticking to the same server. The Assignment server determines what work each client gets. Each Worker Server has set priorities. So the priority for this new P8018 must be higher than or at least equal to other projects. And your streak won't change until Pande Group decides to change those priorities, or until they run out of P8018, and your client gets shifted to a lessor priority server. The less often PG changes the settings, the longer your streaks.
Feel free to check the Weighting and AS assignment percentages on the Server Status page for your client type and OS.

Re: 8018 ad infinitum
If what you say is true, are you saying it is pure dumb luck that I haven't had an 8018 in weeks despite running standard Windows clients? I see strong evidence that clients get "stuck" and your beliefs about priority settings to be wrong.

No, I am saying there is no luck to it. Pure statistics. And if you don't include any system data, there is no way for me to compare it to the server stays page.HaloJones wrote:If what you say is true, are you saying it is pure dumb luck that I haven't had an 8018 in weeks despite running standard Windows clients? Like I said, feel free to check for yourself on the server status page.
Stuck is an observed behavior, not an explanation. Server settings are the explanation.

Re: 8018 ad infinitum
If it were simply a matter of PG's priorities then all donors with broadly similar hardware would be getting the same projects to work on.7im wrote:So the priority for this new P8018 must be higher than or at least equal to other projects. From the (admittedly limited) evidence I see in this forum that's not what happens.

Re: 8018 ad infinitum
Correct. You only have a few posts and zero details. You don't know the OS, or the client version, or what client switches are used, and so what you may have is only half the picture, if that.billford wrote:If it were simply a matter of PG's priorities then all donors with broadly similar hardware would be getting the same projects to work on.7im wrote:So the priority for this new P8018 must be higher than or at least equal to other projects. Feel free to pull that info together and prove me, and prove the Server Status page wrong.

Re: 8018 ad infinitum
... meanwhile, my GPU still has only worked 8018 WUs since the passkey was added. Coming up on a week of that, now. When you figure that I can complete an 8018 in just under 6 hours, that's 4 per day and it's been 16 in a row since I started this thread. Add at least a couple of days before I noticed it enough to start this thread, and you've got a pretty amazing "streak" if things were truly random.

Re: 8018 ad infinitum
But they are not truly random. Check the server status page! If 8018 has a high weighting and a high assignment percentage, that's all you will get for months at a time, or until a new project come out with a higher setting, or until 8018 runs out.
Also, 16 out of 1000s is still a very very small number.
I've seen projects run for months without changing. One week is nothing.
You could always try a different client type setting. Go back to normal if using advanced, or vice versa. Sometimes it makes a difference, sometimes not.
Note that some project numbers take almost a year to finish. So patience is helpful when folding.
