A couple of WUs not credited?

Post by snapshot »

Over the last 48 hours I've successfully completed the following four WUs. As far as I can see, the first two have been credited but the second two haven't. I'd be grateful if someone could check. Team member hurwitt, team 157620.

08/01/2014 20:09 7520 R102, C2, G55
09/01/2014 12:43 7520 R120, C0, G56
09/01/2014 18:52 7520 R35, C0, G126
09/01/2014 20:28 10085 R2, C820, G18

7520 R109, C3, G49 is due to complete at 09:28 today so that could be another one for the list.

The stats server is on the fritz. Everyone's stats aren't working correctly.

Hi hurwitt (team 157620),
Your WU (P7520 R102 C2 G55) was added to the stats database on 2014-01-09 07:10:11 for 4851.8 points of credit.

Project 7520, Run 120, Clone 0, Gen 56; No data back from query

Project 7520, Run 35, Clone 0, Gen 126; No data back from query

Project 10085, Run 2, Clone 820, Gen 18; others have processed this WU but there's no credit for hurwitt.

Project 7520, Run 109, Clone 3, Gen 49; No data back from query

Although I'm confirming your report, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Problems have been reported with several servers, including the stats server. In the past, points were almost never lost, although they have been delayed until the server resumed operation and enough time passed for the backlogged updates to be applied to the database. Keep folding and expect a large cumulative update sometime soon.

Taken together, those two bother me slightly- if there's a delay in returned WUs being applied to the database for some reason, does this mean that there is a possibility of a properly completed WU being assigned a second time and, if so, what's the points position of subsequent assignees?

The Stats system and the WS are two different systems. If the Stats system goes down, WUs will still be assigned and successfully completed ones will not be duplicated since the WS is fully functional and keeps track of the WUs. There might be a rare situation where the WS and the CS aren't in sync so it might be possible for some duplicates to be assigned. However, the main focus is to have the WS fully functional so this situation is pretty rare.

When a single WU has been assigned to different donors (WU duplication), all copies will be treated like a single one, i.e. if you complete the WU and you qualify for the QRB, you get it. There are some pretty rare conditions where a single donor gets the same WU on two different systems (other donors returned the WU with errors, hence the duplication) and since they were assigned properly, the donor got full credits for both WUs.

One way of getting an idea how many WU's have been received by the Work and Collection Servers and not entered into the stats is to look at the entries in the WUs Rcv column of the Server Stats page. The number there is how many are waiting on each WS and CS since the last update of the stats server database. The is also a summary total at the bottom of the column, currently as I post it is over 60K WU's.

Nineteen of those are mine (I hope!), and still no signs of life from the update server :(

Thanks for checking, Bruce. There seems to be no word from the Pande team about what the problem is and when it will be resolved?

I wish mine had… after 12 hours I'm still 4 WUs (~18,000 points) adrift and the stats page is behaving oddly- some update runs are only taking a few minutes as though it's skipping great chunks of input.

Serverstats still shows nearly 10K WUs received but not yet processed so I'm not panicking yet, but beginning to get a little concerned...

Well, my prior experience with stats server outages has included seeing stats updates sometimes needing manual checks through the logs to make certain all WU's have been credited. In a few cases a small number unapplied updates have been located several months later and added to the stats. So, eventually I would expect nearly all to show up.

That's what I'm concerned about- I've started making a list of the WUs that have been uploaded, but I can't positively identify the 4 that are missing out of the (so far) 22 uploaded by 5 clients :(

OK, a few numbers…

The last update run at 09:00Z had completed ("Last updated" time incremented) by 09:12, in my experience a more normal time is 20-25 minutes.

Prior to the update there were ~12,600 WUs outstanding, at the first server update afterwards at ~09:30Z it was still over 10,000. One server (171.67.108.149, GPU) hadn't changed from 7,646, 171.64.65.156 and 171.64.65.157 (both SMP) had only dropped from 698 and 1352 to 302 and 389 respectively.

I could easily be convinced that the stats update is missing out a lot of WUs for some reason… but I'm open to other suggestions.
