Black Squares on screen while folding

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Black Squares on screen while folding

Post by azenor »

Ive been folding for several hours with my 7970 for several hours now.
There seem to be random small black squares that appear/disappear. When not folding, they disappear.

Its a XFX 7970 @ stock settings, temps never go over 65c

If there are random artifacts appearing on the screen, I would do a GPU memory test such as MemtestG80 and MemtestCL

MemtestG80 probably won't work on an AMD GPU, so MemtestCL it is. There's also VMT, it seems to do about the same tests to GPU memory as Memtest86 does to CPU memory.

Nothing wrong with the card, its an issue in the interface with graphical updates to the screen. Likely an Aero problem, like almost every other desktop artifact.

If it's not the card itself, then it's the drivers. What version are you running?
