Just installed v7 client- FANTASTIC!!
I have been folding for prob well over 10 years for team 40051 Tom's Hardware (memorized from all the client installs over the years!) and I always had to run multiple clients with diff hardware ids to utilize multiple cpu cores and manually add startup shortcuts etc.
I just installed the new client and am SO HAPPY with the features!
I was able to add my cores to "cpu slots" feature, let one of my old v6 clients pause on finish then pause one of the cores on new client and am letting my last v6 client finish while continuing to use 100% cpu/both cores. Sweet!! Did not even have to read the manual. (Also LOVE the new site and focus on attracting new folders!!)
(side note is I am so frustrated by Win7 and Win8 audio performance/glitching- the XP LAPTOP I run with FAH can be 100% cpu and 10 diff things running and never glitch audio playback from Flash players or local Winamp, iTunes etc. all while streaming the audio via Bluetooth to Logitech audio interface to speakers- I wish MS would fix the audio implementation of Win OS!!! I have tried MANY fixes to no effect)
Just wanted to say thanks for the great new client and website.
Here's to finding some cures!!!

Excellent, that's good to hear! And welcome to the forum.
F@h is now the top computing platform on the planet and nothing unites people like a dedicated fight against a common enemy. This virus affects all of us. Lets end it together.
Re: Just installed v7 client- FANTASTIC!!
Is there a way to have it load on startup?

Re: Just installed v7 client- FANTASTIC!!
It depends on what operating system, what slot types are folding, and what you mean by startup. Windows will automatically start folding upon power up if V7 is installed as a service but GPU folding is prevented with Vista, Win7 and Win8 but not XP. The default Windows V7 install will start folding upon log-in with no GPU limitations simply by using a shortcut in the startup folder. You can also configure Windows to automatically log-in without requiring a password but there are security ramifications to doing so. The default V7 install for Linux is to run as a service and will start folding upon boot (no log-in required). I do not know about OSX.

For OS X the default is the same as for Linux. The folding client runs as a service in the background and by default starts folding shortly after booting. That default can be changed.

Re: Just installed v7 client- FANTASTIC!!
To manage the folding process, it's best to run the Linux/OSX service 24x7 and if you want to stop folding, use FAHControl to Pause or Finish the active WU(s). The service won't do anything unless there's something to fold. To "start" or "stop" folding after a reboot, I do not start or stop the service but rather I add setting <pause-on-start v='true'/> or 'false.'
For Windows Vista or later, the service can be used for for CPUs only, as P5 said. In V7.6.3, there is a new shortcut called Folding@home which can be put in startup (not to be confused with shortcuts for FAHControl or FAHClient). It will start a copy of WebControl plus a copy of FAHClient running in systray which DOES support GPU folding. It's technically not running as a service, but functionally, processing can be managed in exactly the same way is if it were a service after you log on. If you prefer FAHControl over WebControl, you can edit that shortcut to remove the last string.

Wow, surprising you still have to manually put it in startup folder in some scenarios. Thanks for the info!
Re: Just installed v7 client- FANTASTIC!!
I cannot find how to "pause after finish" in v7, is it there somewhere?

Right mouse-click on the slot and "finishing"

Re: Just installed v7 client- FANTASTIC!!
Did not work- picked up a new WU after finishing.

There should be a log entry hh:mm:ss FSnn Finishing where hh:mm:ss is the GMT when you set FINISH. for slot nn, Please post the log segment from that point until the next WU was downloaded for that slot. Also post the first page or two of the log showing your system's configuration.Om_Audio wrote:Did not work- picked up a new WU after finishing.

That should work. But the Finish state currently does not stick across a restart of the client such as due to a reboot. A ticket to make it stick across a reboot was submitted a while back, that may show up in a future version.
If this was from a different reason could you post the log? That may point to a different cause.

Oh that was probably it. I would prefer it to stick so will hope to see it in a future update- thanks and happy thanksgiving!
