I did that. No dice. I still can't see anything with either the WebControl or FAHControl.

Yes, I can see one, and only one, FAHClient. I see two Core wrappers. One FahCore_17.exe and one FahCore_a3.exe

That is, I see these in Windows Task Manager. I can't see anything in either WebControl or FAHControl.

Disable your firewall and any other security software that might contain one. (You can also disconnect from the internet if you want). Does either Advanced Control or Web Control connect to FAHClient now?

If not, you've messed up the port numbers.

I already did that. But I'll do it again.

Inbound Firewall off
Outbound Firewall off
Anti-virus & Anti-spyware off
email filtering off
Program access control off

And the same results.

All of the above back on. Still the same results.

Port number is set to 36330 in FAHControl. I have no idea what it is set to in the folding. I did not change any of the default settings.

What browser are you using? Can you please post the log which should be in (Default location):
%AppData%\FAHClient

This should give us an idea of what F@H settings the FAHClient is using. Please note that if the system is offline (not connected to the internet), Web Control will not function. This is a known issue (https://fah.stanford.edu/projects/FAHClient/ticket/1027). Your only choice is to use Advanced Control (AKA FAHControl) or enter http://127.0.0.1:7396/ into the supported browser.

FireFox 25.0.1 There is nothing wrong with my internet connectivity.

All of this was working correctly yesterday until I had to reboot to get a new GPU WU.

Now FAHControl just says "Connecting" and shows me as team 0, Anonymous. That is not correct.

I just had to reboot to get another GPU WU.

I found the solution in the config file. As soon as I changed the port to 36328 everything started working.

This is NOT a setting that I have changed anywhere. I do not know how the port number got changed from the default in the config file.

Here is the current config file.

Code: Select all

<config>
  <!-- Folding Slot Configuration -->
  <power v='full'/>

  <!-- Network -->
  <proxy v=':8080'/>

  <!-- Remote Command Server -->
  <command-port v='36328'/>

  <!-- User Information -->
  <passkey v='REDACTED'/>
  <team v='36120'/>
  <user v='LonePalm'/>

  <!-- Folding Slots -->
  <slot id='0' type='GPU'/>
  <slot id='1' type='CPU'/>
</config>
I appreciate everyone's help with getting things worked out.

Now, if I could just start getting GPU WUs without having to reboot.

The value 36330 appears on both the Connection tab of Advanced Control and on the Slots tab. Those numbers MUST match ... and you must restart the client after they're changed. The Allow entry must include 127.0.0.1.

Do you have a Telnet client installed on that system? If things still don't work, having one is often helpful in debugging connection problems.

Thanks for posting the configuration. However, within that directory, there will be a log or log.txt file so can you please post that since that is where any errors FAHClient encounters will be recorded and might help us to solve this issue.

Re: GPU WU issues spreading to CPU WUs

Post by 7im »

As long as the command port setting is not the default setting, I am not comfortable that nothing else has also changed.

I know this is a pain, but please finish all the current WUs, and uninstall the fah app, INCLUDING the data. Reboot, then reinstall FAH using the defaults. By no means a guaranteed fix, but I would feel better troubleshooting on a known good installation than a potentially altered installation. Thanks.

All right. I'll wait until the GPU finishes about 2230Z and then completely wipe everything. It will put a hurt on today's and tomorrow's folding numbers.

I will keep a copy in a back up directory.

Thank you all for your help. I know this is a pain.

Re: GPU WU issues spreading to CPU WUs

OK, here's how things went.

The GPU WU completed and uploaded its results but did not download a new WU even though it started trying at 98% complete.
I stopped all folding. Created new folders and copied off the data and programs.
Uninstalled FAH complete with data.
Restarted the computer to get an absolutely clean install.
Installed FAH from the install program I downloaded yesterday.
Entered personal information into the Web Control page and saved.
Started FAH Control. The configuration still showed port 36328. When I changed it to 36330 everything displayed.
The GPU immediately downloaded a WU but I hat to reboot one more time before the CPU downloaded a WU.

Here is the most recent log file.

This is very peculiar. You seem to have two installations of F@H, one as a multi-user (C:\ProgramData\FAHClient) and the other as a single user (C:\Users\Edward Rodman\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient). Any idea as to what happened that you installed F@H twice?

Your fresh installation came from the single user (C:\Users\Edward Rodman\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient). However, can you please check if there if a FAHClient folder in the C:\ProgramData Folder (it is a hidden folder by default so you may have to select the show the hidden folders option). If so, I would suggest that you set your F@H to Finish and once done, uninstall it including the data and check to ensure that FAHClient folder isn't present in these locations (assuming that you selected the default paths during all your previous installations):
C:\ProgramData Folder
C:\Users\Edward Rodman\AppData\Roaming
C:\Program Files (x86)

Even if after uninstallation FAHClient folder is present, you may have to manually delete them. Once that is all done, you can then proceed to installing F@H in either the single user or multi-user location, depends on your choice.

OK, you lost me there. The Code files you are quoting from was deleted earlier today.

I uninstalled everything and installed it ONE time just for me.

The config data in .../AppData/Roaming/FAHClient was last updated yesterday. I did the clean install today.

Yes, there is a FAHClient folder under c:/ProgramData
Yes there is a FAHClient folder under c:/Program Files (x86)

Can I just delete the folder under .../AppData\Roaming? It hasn't updated today.

Okay, let me explain it in another manner.

When you choose to install F@H on your system, you chose just for me option (single user) so this will create two default locations on your system:
User data files -> C:\Users\Edward Rodman\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient
Program files -> C:\Program Files (x86)\FAHClient

Alternatively, when you chose to install for everybody on the system (multi user), it will create two default locations on your system:
Shared user data files -> C:\ProgramData\FAHClient
Program files -> C:\Program Files (x86)\FAHClient

Thus, on a single system, at any given time, you can either have a single user installation or a multi user installation. Not both. The logs that you posted previously, indicated you had both which isn't expected and could cause issues.

You have stated that you uninstalled F@H and did a fresh installation for a single user. However, you have a FAHClient folder in C:\ProgramData\ which cannot exist for a single user. My best guess is that with "double" installation, when you uninstalled F@H, only one location is removed while the other remains. Regarding the deletion, you can't delete the C:\Users\Edward Rodman\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient folder since that is what is being used for F@H in a single user set-up. I wouldn't be overly concerned about the time-stamp. Rather, I would delete the multi user C:\ProgramData\FAHClient folder since the set-up is done for a single user.

However, I would recommend that you set your Slots to Finish and once done. Perform an uninstallation and select the option to delete the data. Once successfully done, look to see if there is a FAHClient folder in the following locations:
C:\Program Files (x86)
C:\ProgramData
C:\Users\Edward Rodman\AppData\Roaming
If there is a FAHClient folder, simply delete it and then, start the installation of V7.3.6 and chose just for me (single user) and once successfully completed, you will notice that FAHClient folders will only be present in:
C:\Program Files (x86) -> Will be used by the program
C:\Users\Edward Rodman\AppData\Roaming -> Will store all the FahCores and WUs that FAHClient will be using.
