Why no app?

Post by Frostebyte00 »

I have veen folding a few days (under a slightly different name) and i realized im using boinc on my phone and if i could fold i would. Why no mobile apps? Are phones and mp3 plyers just too slow or is it a development problem. Im getting a new phone soon and keeping my other (rooted droid bionic overclocked to 1.2 gHz) and its probably almost as fast as one of my Pentium 4's im folding with. So if its just that there isnt enough interest thats fine. Id just like to know

Basically you guessed it when when you asked if they are too slow. There are current WU's for folding that take a Core 2 Duo running at full power 24 hours or more to complete. There is some interest in using tablets and the like for monitoring folding going on PC's and other systems, but there is just not the processing power to fold more than some simple proteins in a reasonable time using phones and mp3 players.

It takes real processing power to do good science. ;)

Even old computers do very well, if you can put a modern GPU in them and GPU fold.
