Adding GPU client?

Post by sh4rkbyt3 »

Can I still add a GPU client to my already running CPU client? Been running for a while but would like to add a few more points if I'm able.

I used to know how to do this with some of the earlier versions but have been out of the loop for a little while.

Specs: AMD1090T X6 OC'd to 3.72Ghz, 8GbRAM, Win7 x64, MSI GTX560Ti.

Which version of the F@H client are you using? In any case, yes you can add GPU folding to your already running client. Configuration instructions for the latest V7 client on Windows are here. There is a section specifically about adding folding slots.

For these instructions I'm assuming that you are running v7 of the folding client.

Run the advanced control and click configure. Go to the slots tab and click add. Select GPU (optional: Click Add below the Extra Slot Options click and type client-type in the name field and advanced in the value field then click OK) then OK. Next, modify the CPU slot, by double clicking on it, to use one less CPU core by selecting the CPU slot and modify the number of CPU threads from -1 (which is the default) to 5. Click save.

Depending on how much you want to GPU fold, you may want to change the power setting from medium to full. Medium only GPU folds using the folding screensaver which means you need to make it your default screensaver and set the amount of idle time before it goes active. Full runs folding at maximum all the time regardless of your personal usage and that may cause your computer to have annoying lag symptoms.

Did the page Joe_H linked above not contain those same instructions for adding a slot? With pictures? ;)
