WU p7808, run 3: clone: 190 gen:97 very slow

Post by mslangen777 »

Hi,

My system is currently busy with project 7808, run:3 clone:190 gen:97
It is recently become very slow. This WU is now at 29.93% and shows ETA: 6.92 days.

Anyone know what's wrong? Should I reboot my system?
When I look at the activity monitor it shows full processor use at all four cores.
See the log below.

Thanks for your reply.

Marcel.

Sorry, but not enough information to answer your question. I have no idea what your system is nor what is normal for it. The first thing to know is what processor and how many cores does it have. Next would be the process tab in your task manager to see what processes are using the CPU and how much. The A4 Core does not like to have to compete for resources with other processes. It is designed to suspend itself in preference to virtually all other activities so that you can use your machine for your uses first. Even a single process constantly using 5-10% of a CPU can cause much longer frame times...

Also, is your system running at full clock speed, or is it using a reduced clock speed either from energy saver settings or in response to high temperatures? If the system needs dust cleaned out of the heat sink or there is poor conductivity because the thermal paste or pad has dried out, the CPU will reduce speed to keep from overheating. I do see from the log that the early frames were completed in about 15 minutes, after the 7% mark they increased greatly.

Hi,

After a reboot the project has fun fine. It must have been the temperature which clocked the processor down.

If it was a temperature issue, you may want to clean the system or tweak the fan RPM to ensure that such behavior doesn't happen again in the future.
