Just downloaded the client today. Machine been running a few hours now. When I open the FAH control it seems to be still 'connecting'.
I have a small home network here accessing the web through a wireless router. I port forwarded 36330 which seems to be the port fah wants to use.
Should it connect quickly or does it take many hours? Are there procedures I can follow to check all is okay?
My computer is very humble. An Athlon 64 3200 cpu and a sapphire radeon x800gt graphic card, 2gig ram, is all. Should that be adequate?
Task manager seems not to list fah as either a current application or a process. But I wouldn't know what process name it might be using if not fah.

Fah uses ports 80 and 8080 like a web browser. Make sure those are open as well.

I assume by "connecting" you mean that on the left-hand side under Clients the status is listed as Connecting, and the status is backgrounded in yellow? In that case FAHControl isn't connecting to the client, and if you don't see anything in Task Manager it's probably because the client isn't running. Do you remember whether, during installation, you told it to start automatically? If not, start the client via Start->Programs->FAHClient->Folding@home.
If it's up and running, you should see a task in TaskMan called FAHCore_XX.exe, where the XX is something like a4 or 78, as well as the task FAHClient.exe, and probably FAHCoreWrapper.exe and FAHControl.exe.

Re: Just Started - Nothing Happening - What?
FAH consists of several components and generally, more than one of them are normally running. These components communicate with each other within a single OS using ports like 36330 but for most people, this is within a single OS on a single FAH computer. This means that port 36330 doesn't need to be open in your router. It does need to be open in your firewall, though, so the communications between the components can proceed. It's ports 80 and 8080 are directed at Stanford servers by way of your router.
If FAHControl is still trying to connect through port 36330, be sure that both FAHClient and FAHControl are running, as well as a FahCore_xx.

Thank you all. It's all okay now. Computer apparently needed a restart was all, I guess. Processes you mentioned are running and it looks good in the fahcontrol screen.
