Why Am I Getting A Different Point Count Total With Passkey?

Post by Alan C. Lawhon »

OK, I’m totally confused as to what my actual point count is since I obtained (and enabled) a passkey. I obtained a passkey late last Saturday – which was six days ago. For the first 144 days of folding (without a passkey), my cumulative numbers are as follows:

Day:144
Total Points Accumulated (reported without a passkey): 797,696
Successfully Completed and Returned Work Units: 1,221
Average Points (per day): 5,540
Average Points (per WU): 653.31

These are my numbers as of tonight (querying without entering my passkey):

Day:150
Total Points Accumulated (reported without a passkey): 823,183
Successfully Completed and Returned Work Units: 1,277
Average Points (per day): 5,488
Average Points (per WU): 644.62

NOTE: My numbers, in terms of average points/day and average points per WU, seem to be steadily declining since I enabled the passkey. (I was under the impression that my numbers would "increase" once I obtained and enabled a passkey!)

Now, when I enter (and query) with my passkey, I get these numbers:

Name starts with Lawhonac – Passkey <passkey intentionally blanked out>

1 Lawhonac 19667 48 0

I’m getting two different sets of numbers – one set of numbers without the passkey and a different set of numbers when I query with the passkey. (I still don’t understand this “passkey” business.) What is my actual point total now? Is it the sum of 823,183 + 19,667 = 842,850 and my total WUs is 1,277 + 48 = 1,325?

Some Servers (specifically the old GPU ones) will not register the passkey for that WU, only your username. For those WUs, it is not a problem since they are not in the Quick Return Bonus plan. Those WUs which are in the QRB Plan will be registered with your passkey plus your name.

Username -> All WUs (QRB and Non-QRB)
Username + Passkey -> All QRB WUs

Is this helpful in your understanding of passkey?

Regarding the increase of points, you do get it once you qualify for the QRB scheme on the QRB WUs.

Sorry, confused by your post.

Your point count is by your username. It will increase, with or without your passkey.

The pass key adds an additional layer of security. It is required to get Quick Return Bonus points.

You return 80% of your WU completed and on time , and you are subsequently awarded additional points based on the speed at which you complete WU.

So your PPD (points per day) running the same equipment, in the same way, will be greater when using a passkey, than it is would be without.

However, your total point s will continue to accumulate on the same username regardless.

I'm still confused. I thought you were supposed to start getting the QRB bonus points as soon as you had succesfully completed (and returned) ten WUs with your passkey enabled. It appears that I have completed (and returned) 48 WUs (since last Saturday) with my passkey enabled, so I should be getting QRB points. (Are the 48 WUs and the 19,667 points all QRB points?)

Is my total number of points the sum of the points reported with my Username only plus the sum of points reported with my Username and the passkey? Also, did I not receive any QRB points at all for the first 1200+ WUs that I folded while I was folding without a passkey?

While you have returned 48 WUs with the same username/passkey combination, you will be awarded the Bonus points automatically if the Project supports it. You can find out if the Project has QRB or not by looking at the K-Factor column in the Project Summary. A Non-Zero value indicates that it is a QRB Project.

Here is my example:

I was assigned a WU, Project:8089 (Run:1732 Clone:1 Gen:49) so if you look at the Project Summary, you will notice that the K-Factor is 0.75:

Code: Select all

8089	171.67.108.60	p8089	39000	4.40	9.50	236.00	100	GRO_A4	Description	shukla	0.75
Now, if I didn't use a passkey, I would get only 236.00 points (this is known as the Credit on the Project Summary and also known as the base points). Since I am using a passkey, I was awared the base points plus the bonus:
Hi PantherX (team 69411),
Your WU (P8089 R1732 C1 G49) was added to the stats database on 2013-05-10 09:13:24 for 1949.86 points of credit.

So you see, the bonus points happens automatically on the server side once the conditions are met.
Alan C. Lawhon wrote:...Is my total number of points the sum of the points reported with my Username only plus the sum of points reported with my Username and the passkey?
Your Username is All the WUs (a set)
Your Username+Passkey is the QRB WUs from All the WUs (a sub-set).
Thus, you need not add anything to get your total points, just look-up your username to get all the points under that name.

Hopefully, it is clear. If not, please tell and we will try to come up with a different explanation.

EDIT -> You will not be given QRB points for the previous WUs that you have completed. The only exception is if a Server issue occurs and that too depends on the researcher and the difficulty level. You will be getting QRB from now onwards on all QRB WUs.

Well something must be wrong since my averages (in terms of average points awarded per day and average points awarded per WU) appear to be steadily dropping since last Saturday. If anything, my average points (as reflected in those two metrics) should be increasing - not dropping!

Can you please post few WUs that you have done with your username/passkey so that we can lookup and see if you are getting the QRB points or not?

Alan, looking at your stats on kakao I see a lot of core 11 work being done. These GPU projects do not receive QRB and they do not count towards QRB qualification. Although you may have completed 48 or more of them they have no affect on your passkey's qualification. You must successfully finish 10 CPU/SMP(cores a3,a4,a5) work units to qualify your passkey.

There also seems to be something amiss with your official stats. :e?: When I search for your name on Donor stats I do get an entry for Lawhonac but clicking on it leads to rawhonac which has no completed work units. Are there any special characters or an email address attached to Lawhonac? This may be part of the problem.

EDIT: I see from one of your other posts that you are indeed using an email address:

Code: Select all

22:33:59: <user v='Lawhonac@HiWAAY.net'/>
This may be adding to my confusion.
You may choose any name you like, as long as it contains only letters or numbers (to insert a space, you may use the underscore "_" character). If you choose your email address as your username, we will use the full email address but NOT print the full email address. Instead, just the part before the @ sign will be used in any stats listing, etc. User names are also case sensitive.
Although using an email address is acceptable it is obviously causing problems for some of our look-up tools. This is not something you need to change.

PantherX:

OK, here is a (multi-day execution) Work Unit I'm currently crunching which has just under 4 hours of remaining execution time. Project 7809 (2, 38, 41). According to the project summary for this WU, it is using (running?) the GRO_A4 core software and has a "K factor" of 0.58 with an indicated credit of 6,257.36 points according to my FAH client control - which I think makes this WU eligible for QRB points.

I would be grateful if you checked this WU to confirm whether or not I'm getting "bonus points" for execution. By my "guesstimation" - based on the results of similar WUs I have crunched in the past - I should get well over 6,000 points (including the QRB points) for successful completion and return of this WU. Before I obtained and enabled my passkey, I was getting 6,000+ points for 2.3 to 2.6 day ETA WUs similar to 7809 (2, 38, 41).

Also, I am now reporting 60 completed and returned WUs (and 23,903 points) when I query with my passkey, so it's hard to believe that I have not completed enough "eligible" WUs to qualify for the QRB bonus. Still, when I query with just my username, (i.e. "Lawhonac" with no passkey), I'm getting 827,419 points and 1,289 completed and returned WUs. My numbers for average points/day and average points/WU are continuing to drop - which doesn't make sense.

I'm not sure what is going on, but since I enabled this "passkey" feature, my daily point total appears to have dropped considerably. (This assumes that the 23,903 points reported with my passkey is a subset of my 827,419 point total. If the 23,903 points should be added to my 827,419 point total, then I may be getting my QRB points.) I'm not sure if I'm getting all my points or not.

Pm with username and passkey to any moderator and they can check to see if you qualify for QRB. If you also supply them with some Project (Run, Gen , Clone) of completed WU's they can then query the stat server to see what points were actually given.

As of right now the stat server has no record of 7809 (2, 38, 41) being returned.

OK. Your WU (P7809 R2 C38 G41) was JUST added to the stats database on 2013-05-12 06:12:41 for 1894.75 points of credit (within the past hour).

EDIT -> Following assumption is incorrect. See post below.

So, from the Project Summary, I get this:

Code: Select all

7809	171.64.65.99	p7809	60595	25.60	55.46	1722.50	100	GRO_A4	Description	schwancr	0.58
Project 7809's Base Credit -> 1722.50 with a timeout of 25.60 days. Now, you got 1894.75 points which is barely more than the base points, 172.25 points than the base line to be exact. That would indicate that you barely made it by the timeout. Your TPF would have to be around 360 minutes for you just to get that low score. For comparison, here is what I am getting on my systems (SMP:2 and runs 24/7 on non-dedicated systems):
Avg. Time / Frame : 00:40:37 - 2,062.30 PPD -> Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T8300 @ Stock
Avg. Time / Frame : 00:36:42 - 2,401.09 PPD -> Intel Pentium E5400 @ Stock
Avg. Time / Frame : 00:41:30 - 1,996.80 PPD -> Intel Pentium E5500 @ Stock

I would ask what hardware you are using for folding and why your set-up is. You may want to post the log file and include the initial section so that we can see what your system configuration is and how F@H is configured.

Days taken to complete WU: 2.47

Actually he received base credit plus the a4 10% bonus ... no QRB.
