The solution might be preferring IPV4: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2533454

Give that a try and post back with your security setup if you continue to have a problem.

Tried the solution and it didn't work.
And where could I find the details of my

Are you using a proxy server? If so you need to define it in FAH. Are you running a firewall? It may be blocking the download.

Are you able to download the core directly from a web browser by pasting this in the address bar?

Are you running the application as an administrator?

Do you have sufficient space on your disk?

Yes I can download the core directly.
I tried turning off the firewall, but to no avail.
Checked internet setting already and I'm not using
any proxy.
Are you running the application as an administrator?

Do you have sufficient space on your disk?
Yes I have sufficient space and I have tried running the program as
an administrator.

I hate to dig up an old thread but after 3 years of folding, I have run into this "Failed to read stream" error and am at a loss. I can post the log if needed. Here is what has happened:

1. Machine 1: Folding 24/7 for two years. Q9550 and two 470's. (Vista64)
2. Machine 2: Reactivated it after a three month hiatus. i5-3570 and one 460 (Win7-64bit)
3. Machine 3: Just started it. i7-950 and one 780 (win7-64bit)

Issue: All three are tied to the same router. Machine 3 had a "Failed to read stream" error from the start. Machine's 1 and 2 were fine until yesterday (8NOV). Now all three machines can fold via the CPU only. According to the log, only the GPU's on all three machines give the "Failed to read stream" error. I can connect to Stanford etc. I did a clean re-install of Win764 on Machine 3. I am afraid to do a clean install of F@H on the other machines just incase.

Thanks,

Paul

Welcome to the F@H Forum Pablo 54,

Please post the logs from your systems, especially the initial section which contains the system configuration and F@H settings. Also, what drivers are you using on your systems? It might be unrelated, but yesterday, FahCore_17 was released to Full F@H and it runs only on the GPU (http://folding.stanford.edu/home/change ... -full-fah/).

Failed to read stream may indicate something is blocking the network connection. What AV software is installed on your new OS?

Thanks for the responses, I was out of town this weekend. It is a mixed bag now. Computer 1 is still only doing CPU, Computer 3,after I took out the 780 and put in an old gt 240, is now doing only GPU. I did the software update on Computer 2 and now nothing is running. Its log is what I have posted below. Interesting issue. I am leaving the other two alone since they are producing something. My AV is MS Security Essentials and I have almost nothing flagged at the firewall.

When I first installed FAH on my stand-alone computer, the MS firewall told me it was blocking some f@h features. I had to tell it to permit those connections. Communications between fahclient and fahcontrol can be blocked if you don't tell Windows it's ok.

That's popped up but even when I agree to it, there is no change. I am going to change my router settings later today. It's just interesting that I can fold on a CPU for one, GPU for another and nothing for a third while all three are tied to the same router. Crazy Internets!

Temporary Fix: Split up my 470's and put them in two boxes. Loaded V6 for both GPU and CPU on two of the machines. V7 is still running the CPU in the 3rd box so I let it go. All three cards are now folding, the q9550 is still chugging along BUT the CPU's with V6 are looking like popcorn. They are slowly folding but not at 100% on each core. Think I am going to wait a few months before going back to V7. Now I just need to get my i7 and i5 back up to full speed.

Thanks.
