Folding Failed with R6570HD

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Folding Failed with R6570HD

Hello, this is my very first post so help me out a little :)

I used to fold before, but just on my CPU (Didn't have a GPU yet). I decided to start folding again, so I got v7, had a few problems with .dll files but I fixed it and now I have my CPU folding just fine but for some reason my GPU's folding failed. It also says gpu:0:Turks [AMD Radeon HD 6500]

Wasn't to sure what to post but here:

Welcome to the folding@home support forum Doshiegg.

You are getting an assignment for your GPU but it is not processing the work unit. The first place to check would be your graphic drivers.

What version of Catalyst are you using?

Similar circumstances here. Have a look at 7im's post and see if you can run the opencl msi installer.

I updated my GPU drivers and now it's running just fine. It took a while for it to finally start fold though.

Also, what are the effects of running it on full overnight? I am currently keeping it on medium because I'm not too sure if putting it on full for long amounts of time will stress the card too much.

And, does full use more bandwith then medium? I really don't know this stuff....

Good to hear a driver update solved your problem.

Most folders run on FULL 24/7. Some that experience lagging issues will use Medium so that the GPU doesn't engage while the computer is being used. As far as switching to FULL overnight, it's really not necessary because the GPU will start processing once the computer is not being used. Since you're using an AMD/ATI graphics card it's recommended that you use 1 less CPU core for any CPU slots you may have. Using Medium will accomplish that too.

I would suggest leaving the slider on Medium. If you decide you want to run the GPU 24/7 (i.e. FULL) then you would have to use FAHControl to manually set your CPU slot to use just 1 of your 2 CPUs from it's current setting of -1 because using FULL will automatically change your CPU slot to use both your cores and since your GPU requires a core for itself your CPU will be over taxed trying to do 3 cores worth of work on a 2 core machine.

You won't get any bonus points till the username+passkey is qualified by completing 10 QRB WU's and maintaining at least 80% successful completion. My point is that you won't start getting the extra points immediately unless it has been previously qualified.
