Unable To Send

Hi,
I am folding on an i5 laptop on which I installed the client last week and was able to successfully complete and send a couple jobs. I have other clients running on the same network that are sending OK as far as I can tell. But on this client yesterday I noticed it was in "Ready" mode instead of "Running." The log said it had made 13 attempts to send a completed job. I deleted the job and it successfully got a new one, which it completed overnight. But this morning it was once again in "Ready" mode and had failed to send its completed job.

It is possible that the network admins here have made changes to the firewall since last week but since other clients are doing OK I wonder if there is some setting on this computer (running Windows 7) that I can change to fix it.

You do not have just a problem sending but also receiving to both assignment servers as well as work servers. My guess is that you have issues with your internet connection. That being said, it does seem peculiar that all your send attempts fail at 2.6%.

What happens if you enter 171.67.108.60 or 171.65.103.160:8080 into your browser as a url?

Thanks for your reply. I think there is a proxy server but unclear why it would affect one client and not the others.

http://171.67.108.60/ loads a blank page.
171.65.103.160:8080 attempts for awhile and returns "The connection was reset. The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."

If your internet connection drops and FAHClient doesn't get an error, it can hang indefinitely unless the FAHClient is restarted. I have experienced this on my systems due to flaky internet connection and it is a known bug -> https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/F ... ticket/983

The correct response is a blank page. I get that with the following:
http://171.67.108.60/
http://171.67.108.60:8080/

If you don't get a blank page, then it means that there is an issue between your system and the F@H Servers. Do you have any firewall or other applications which might be blocking it?

Well, the first returns a blank page but the second continually hangs. Is there a firewall port I need to open? I am not very good with Windows 7 stuff, can you advise how to do that?

F@H uses the same ports that a web browser uses. With default settings, everything should work out of the box. I am not sure if some security application on your system have blocked port 8080 or it's an issue somewhere else. Have you installed any special security software on your system?

Well, I use this laptop in a corporate firewall but through Windows Firewall I have selected "FAH Client" to add to the list of Allowed Programs.

My best guess is that the corporate firewall might be blocking it. How about asking the IT department about it?

BTW, if you are folding on a system that you don't own, you will need to obtain written permission to fold on it to comply with the EULA. If you own the system, then it is fine.

I'm going to generalize ... and while these statements probably apply to you, there's no gurantee. This may be more information than you want but it also might sometimes point you to the right answer.
