New guy question??
hi, I am about to start Folding on two computers. I'm going to leave them in my garage, they both will be running Ubuntu. Can i monitor them on my main computer in the house over the internet?
Re: New guy question??
Welcome to the Folding Forums, TACAMO.
You can monitor computers on your intranet with HFM.net. Many people use it to monitor multiple clients, and I do too.

Re: New guy question??
Very good. Is it hard to set up? I'm new to ubuntu and folding.
Re: New guy question??
It's pretty easy. Once installed, Add a client by entering in the IP (127.0.0.1 for local) and that'll get you started. There are other options as well to customize it.
HFM is required to use telnet messages like the FAHClient so the IP of the monitoring machine will need to be entered into the FAHClient you wish to monitor. The same way you can give FAhControl control of clients on other PCs.
I haven't installed it on Linux but I monitor Linux machines on my home network using HFM on my windows desktop.

F@h is now the top computing platform on the planet and nothing unites people like a dedicated fight against a common enemy. This virus affects all of us. Lets end it together.
Re: New guy question??
Thank you. I will give this a go.

Welcome to foldingforum.org, TACAMO.
It should also be noted that the V7 client contains both monitoring and control features. I've used HFM for a long time and like it very much but I find I'm using it less and less, depending on what I'm actually wanting to do.
The default installation uses WebControl to view activities on each machine independently and is ideal for someone who wants simplicity. HFM is a straightforward method of monitoring multiple machines. Using the V7's Advanced Control features is more complex but also allows you to change the configuration of remote machines and make other types of changes. The choices are up to you.

Re: New guy question??
Got it working. Thanks for the help. Also can I have more than one 3D visualization window open, one for each client.
Re: New guy question??
The 3D visualization takes quite a bit of processor time and that detracts from the amount of scientific work that can be accomplished. The general consensus is that it's fine to impress your friends with them, to watch them from time to time, but don't waste resources running more than one of them that you're not actually looking at.

@bruce:
Thanks.
Where can I find any guidance? I have four (or five) machines running and would love to monitor them at one location.Using the V7's Advanced Control features is more complex but also allows you to change the configuration of remote machines and make other types of changes. I am currently folding just on the 5x GTX 460's for aprox. 70K PPD - Location: Salem. OR USA
Re: New guy question??
HFM.net is a better monitoring solution. Advanced control's remote access is better used to modify configs or pause/unpause remotely.

https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/F ... FahControl may be helpful although it technically dates to V7.2 and not V7.3. The two are similar though, so the guide should still be useful to you.Jesse_V wrote:Try https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/F ... oteClientsTACAMO wrote:Is there a guide that will walk me thought it?
