I have one old Pentium M uniprocessor that gets nothing but Core 78 work units from 171.67.108.53. Since Jan 18 at about 0200GMT (6pm Thursday jan 17 Stanford PST time) the server 171.67.108.53 accepted the latest finished work unit to be uploaded, but I have gotten nothing but a string of the "failed to get assignment" warnings. I pulled out one from a few minutes ago - so it's been over 7 hours now.

I looked at the Server status, and the server seems to be up, but the columns for WU available are all blank, and the column for % Assigned 80 is blank with a blue coloring. the tool tips on the column header says that the blue color is "iced" when the AS thinks the server is down or out of jobs.

Still getting the same behavior at 1616 GMT (some 14 hours total). the FAH Control GUI showing "Waiting on WS Assignment" and 34 attempts. Server stat essentially the same. Detailed stats page shows that the WUs Avail went from 15,611 to zero at Thu Jan 17 16:00:11 PST 2013.

RESOLVED: 171.67.108.53 - Unable to get new work assignments

Post by GreyWhiskers »

Sometime between 19:30:59 GMT and 20:46:31 GMT on 2013-01-18, the work server 171.67.108.53 came back alive and provided new work units.

Looks like it was "down" for 17 hours or so.

Resolved.

UN RESOLVED: 171.67.108.53 - Unable to get new work assignme

Post by GreyWhiskers »

Well, after processing two WU from 171.67.108.53 when it came up as reported above, the server is down again. I looked at the Server Stats page - it is reporting DOWN as the status.

Looks like I haven't been able to get an assignment for the last 15 hours or so.

Is there an issue? Has PG run out of Core 78 work units?

Cannot download WU

Post by PSI_Performance »

Hi Guys, having a minor issue which i assume is due to the computer...

Years ago, i had used this computer for folding, and have just dug it out of the closet to give it another shot.

Installed V7 and it wont download the WU!

Searching around, i have seen similar issues where guys have had to wait many hours/day, its been over a day for this one and it still hasnt downloaded a WU yet!

Welcome to foldingforum.org, PSI_Performance.

The Sempron 2800+ is a relatively old CPU which can only process a small percentage of the projects currently being assigned. I have one, too, and it sometimes gets assignments and sometimes does not. I think there's only a couple of servers that still have projects for it and at least one of them is down for maintenance.

Yep, my Atom330 - which has only gotten FahCore_78 work so far - is out of luck getting more CPU work as well. Another interesting detail, I've had a Sempron 3400+ (WinXP 32bit OS) running for some time, and all it has ever gotten is FahCore_A4 work. A CPU WU on that one is due in less than 3 hours, but if the old signs hold true, it'll just get another A4 WU to work on.

Interesting that the assignment server should be that picky; Sempron 3400+ is considered OK for A4 work, Sempron 2800+ apparently isn't. Oh well, I guess they'll have to draw the line somewhere. :|

Jeeze, I hate forums, so if I'm doing something wrong please let me know.

I'm in the same boat, unable to download work unit, I'm running Linux fahclient 7.1.52 from the command line

I'm fairly sure I've downloaded WUs between the 17th and when this troublw started happening.
Will I have to ditch folding@home from this machine?

Please reply via email.

For a couple of days I have the same problem on one of my machines, but outwardly it looks slightly different.

So, tell me please, is it a temporary problem or v.6.23 client will not be supported anymore? :?:

Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit Windows XP SP2? Because if it is 32-bit, you should upgrade to SP3. You should also make sure you have the latest version of .net and C++.

Is there any reason for not downloading and installing FAH v7.2.9, including FAHClient and FAHControl? It is a free download, and it will work very well on your WinXP system, much better than v6.23. And you can then get a passkey, as this will enable you to get Quick Return Bonus (QRB) points after 10 eligible WUs and a success rate of more than 80%. There really should not be any reason to stay with FAH v6.23.

Hi all, first time poster but long time folder/lurker here. Thought I'd join and say I'm also suffering this problem, either with the 6.23 or 7.2.9 client, with or without the advmethods/advanced flag set. Incredibly I am also running a Pentium M albeit in a desktop environment and not at stock, it seems maybe there is a list of CPUs that are capable of taking on the A4 core but the Pentium M and Sempron at the start of this topic are not on it? I have been running a uniprocessor client for a long time now and have never seen an a4 WU.

Here is the log from the V7 client with maximum verbosity, the V6 client says much the same though:

And on it goes. The basic question is why can we only get core 78 WUs and not core a4?

Please post the System Info and Config sections of your log as explained here.

I've removed your email address ... there's a button for that under your name. Showing your email address in a forum post can result in security and/or spam problems for you.
As you can see from my original post I'm not running a GUI, nor am I running Windows. What system info do you require, which I haven't already given you?
I have to jump through hoops as it is to paste anything here, so I'd like to keep the hoop jumping to a minimum.
(I have to paste the info into an html document, then load the html document into my browser, then copy from html document in one tab, change to tab where
I'm posting this message. etc etc etc.)
