Unable to correctly set team/user credentials
Hello,
I just setup a new system and I am unable to correctly setup my credentials, after I enter my team number and passkey it still views me as anonymous in fahcontrol/view and I am unable to find a way back into the original setup even after reinstalling and requesting new team password (coudnt find my team on the resend team password? perhaps that is related). I am using the current client on ubuntu linux 64bit on an i7-3770 32gb ram. If this has already been answered please redirect me as the search results were quite over whelming and irrelevant.
Thanks, Tim
my current ID is/should be swearingen.tim
my teamID is/should be number is 223101
(The forum wouldnt allow me to post a link as I have just registered)

Re: Unable to correctly set team/user credentials
Your team and username show up on a search from the Official Stats page, so that is not the issue. You may be running into problems in the client related to using an unsupported username. From the F@H site:
The period in your username may keep the client from storing/displaying it correctly. It looks like you used your email address when you created your username as an exact match search for swearingen.tim does not find your username, but a search for names starting with that does get a match. Your official stats do show on the F@H stats site. You may choose any name you like, as long as it contains only letters or numbers (to insert a space, you may use the underscore "_" character). If you choose your email address as your username, we will use the full email address but NOT print the full email address. Instead, just the part before the @ sign will be used in any stats listing, etc. User names are also case sensitive.

Re: Unable to correctly set team/user credentials
Have I got it able to work in the past? Yes, however I cannot at the moment on the current system and/or reach the correct settings adjustment screen or config file. It would be better to set this up in a more straight forward manor within the FAHControl software preferences, or at least post where to change local user/team config somewhere on the FAQ/Support/ReadMe? Optimally include a basic authentication to confirm proper credit allocations. Perhaps, I am just looking past this?

I do appreciate the passkey/bonus function.

I'm sure this also prevents others from contributing as much as they would like to the project as well.

Re: Unable to correctly set team/user credentials
It won't keep people from contributing. It's safer if you choose a new name but there may be unsupported ways to work around the restrictions, even today.swearingen.tim wrote:I'm sure this also prevents others from contributing as much as they would like to the project as well.
The naming restrictions have been in place for many, many years but were never uniformly enforced. Some names containing disallowed characters worked and some did not. Enforcement is only going to be increased when somebody who didn't follow the rules complains that there is something they can't do.

I would venture to say passive aggressive cognitive dissonance is generally not helpful to collaberative efforts. I can guarentee you it has stopped people from contributing to the project. Keeping the status quo and avoiding innovation isnt generally a scientific technological method that adds value. I'm not sure what or why your opposition intentions to an easily implimented feature is/are?

Re: Unable to correctly set team/user credentials
The Linux Install Guide is a good start. http://folding.stanford.edu/English/LinGuide
Next, the linux client typically installs as a service. If you've tried to stop/start fah several times while the service continues to run, it could easily explain the naming update problem. Reboot, enter in the new info in FAHControl as shown in the Guide, and then save the changes. You will want to restart the fah service or reboot again. If that doesn't work, please post your fah log so we can see what the client is doing. Thanks.

Re: Unable to correctly set team/user credentials
Thank you 7im, I didn't know that was an issue; this quite possibly could be the problem. I'm still not able to get to the original configuration screen without reinstalling my os. I will upload screenshots/logs when I can get back to my computer.
