Marking all as read does not work, unless you ALSO log off and back on.

There are two different functions.
Marking all as read turns off the orange flags but leaves them on the list of new posts until you logoff.
Viewing unread posts follows the orange flag count, not the since logoff count.

I think the precise issue is that the last forum visit isn't being tracked properly with sessions.
I don't have my account set to "log me in automatically", so after a period of inactivity I have to log in again.
What should be happening is that the last forum visit time is updated a long with the last session time, but for some reason it isn't, unless you either manually log out, or click "mark forums read"

The issue is quite visible in the proBlue theme, as at the top of the index page there is a "last forum visit" time. If you haven't logged out recently, there will be a mismatch between the time/date shown here and the "last visit" time/date shown on your profile.

Google shows a few threads discussing this or similar problem:

http://www.google.ca/search?q=phpbb%20w ... l=en&meta=

This one suggests a fix:

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/ ... 60#p208460

I have no idea if their problems are exactly the same as the one we're seeing. :e?:

Unfortunately that's not a fix for the problem we're having it would just cover a part of it up.

It looks like I'm being logged out more today than yesterday, not sure if it is because I'm accessing the site on my phone and from computer...

That's possibly due to something I was testing earlier. I suspect everyone had to log in again at some point today as I wiped the session table in an attempt to fix the new posts problem.

Thanks fungus,

As you likely know logging back in did not reset the new post count.

Is there any prospect of getting the View New Posts to work as it did prior to the upgrade?
i.e. I do not have to mark forums as read, and I do not have to logout to get the new posts count reset.

Agree, having 3159 newposts is annoying - and no, i'm not logging out just to "fix" something that is clearly broke and needs properly fixing

Yes, I will try and fix it, when I have sufficient time to debug the issue.

I have noticed that it is now only neccesary to logout to get the new posts count reset.
i.e. I do not have to mark forums as read first.
