Optimum Config for Processing & PPD Query (I'm new to this)

Hi - I wonder if anyone can give me a couple of pointers please? I'm new to folding but am setting up a few machines to fold just now (much prefer to use the processing down time for something worthwhile). I'm using V7 standard config on an aged server to test the set up before migrating to a new server which I'm in the middle of putting together. Meanwhile I've also set it up on my laptop and am about to install on a couple of desktops.

The old test server and my laptop are giving PPD predictions that seem substantially lower than those suggested as standard for other users though and I wonder if I'm making noob mistakes on the config.

The laptop spec is:

It is currently running the following WU and seems to be processing it fairly swiftly, but the PPD is low:

I'm not particularly point-hunting, but am concerned that this may reflect a low processing rate due to poor set up on my part.

I'd be glad of any pointers. BTW I am using a passkey.

Your screenshot shows Project 8008, which runs on your GPU, not CPU.
Now the client shows you're getting 2621 PPD overall, which is quite low for an i7-2630QM and a GPU.
Can you post the log? Copy the full log, and post it using code tags

Edit: I have to ask, have you checked the task manager? Does it show a fahcore taking up nearly 100%?

I suspect you do not have current video drivers on the GPU (301.42) as my status reads Running gpu:0:GF106 [GeForce GTS 450] and it produces 7500 to 10,000 PPD. Yours seems unaware what a GF106 is, and produces much less.

Oops, on rereading this is a laptop, tuned for low power consumption, not high horsepower. Those reading are probably right.

I think the 'clock skew' entry occurred at the time I adjusted the power consumption, re Jimbo's point.

Jimbo, thanks for reminding me about the laptop power consumption; I immediately amended for performance and the ppd went up slightly straight away, as reflected in the screen shot above. However on checking the graphics drivers, they are up to date.

I'm grateful for the points you've already spotted - just the sort of pointers I need.

I notice several things from your log (keep in mind that I'm not very experienced myself)

1. See that it took 2 hours and 9 minutes to go from 3% to 4%. Which is way too long for a project 8042.
Your TPF also fluctuates considerably. I'm guessing has to do with other processes taking CPU resources (or the laptop's power saving?)
Just for comparison, my i5-2500K @ 4.1 GHz does 1% in about 1 minute 33 seconds on Win7.
Remember that the i5 doesn't have hyperthreading like your i7. From what I've read, hyperthreading gives a sizeable performance increase in FAH.

Thanks very much. IDK what's causing that either, but interestingly I did pause the GPU job a few minutes ago and when it resumed it has lost 30% of progress :(

Depends on the checkpoint interval and how far away from the last check point he was, if he was aboput due for another checkpoint, 30% is possible.

But the TPF was quite high. And the maximum checkpoint interval is 30 minutes, right? So if 30% was lost, the TPF must have been at most 1 minute, which was not the case.
