I'm having a re-occurring error (it's on #17 now).
I'm running Vista on an HP.
Explain using small words, like you're speaking to a moron, because, computer-wise, you will be.
For example, below where it says "signatures can be altered via the UCP"? Yeah, that does me no good b/c I don't know what a UCP is.
Thanks.

Re: Core download error
Welcome to the forum Christina.
If you could click on the icon in the system tray and select the "view log" option it will open notepad.
Copy and paste that into a post here, we can take a look and see what the problem is.
Btw. the UCP is the "User Control Panel".

Re: Core download error
It opens a notepad page, sure enough, but it's completely blank. I clicked on the blank page and it redirected me to this webpage:
Stats update in progress
External access to the Folding@home stats server is currently not available in order to expedite the stats input process. We expect this to take about 45 minutes.
Is there another way to view the log?

Re: Core download error
Ah, I think I know why. Did you install FAH to your "Program Files" folder?
If you did, the simplest way to fix it is to uninstall FAH using add/remove programs, and then re-install it somewhere other than "Program Files".
Vista has some enhanced security measures that prevent programs creating files within "Program Files"

C:\Users\<your user name>\FAH
is a suggested directory to install FAH in Vista.

Re: Core download error
I so very, very much hate Vista.
Having the same problem with my scanner. doesn't work--something with the registry and Vista and...I hate Vista with the heat of a thousand suns.
/off to uninstall/install again/
Thanks and I'll be sure to come back and post the results.

Re: Core download error
My display is still blank but the tray says it's working. That's improvement.

Re: Core download error
Try setting the display to 16 bit instead of 32 bit. There was a thread in here a long time back about that same blank screen issue with the GUI CPU client. Someone may be able to dig that up for you.
