Project: 7600 (Run 3, Clone 3, Gen 38) - Bad WU

[Joe_H]

This was downloaded and kept restarting after an error for about 2 hours. The client did detect that 8 improper terminations had occurred, but still kept trying to run it. I have dumped the WU.

Download size was abnormally small at 21.4 KiB, other Project 7600 WU's have been around 295 KiB. Should be one report from my dumping the WU.

I don't understand it either. The system it was on processed WU's before and after just fine, including some from 7600. I did not spot anything in the F@H logs or the system logs that went along with this sequence of errors, and a restart did not help. Whatever it did not like about the WU was enough under a different SMP setting to error out and return the dump. I guess it hit a corner condition of some sort.

When you use the beta flag without joining the beta team, you're asking for WUs that are likely to be unstable. Remove that setting.

The only reason I use that setting is because my GTX 680 won't fold on the V2 client without it. I have the most up to date GPUs.txt file and still it won't fold without that setting. Any advice along those lines?

7640 is a known problematic project, currently under failure testing. I.E. it is known to fail, but don't know why, so they study it.

That is a risk beta testers are willing to take. Keep the beta flag, because folding some WUs is better than none at all. Just understand it won't be smooth sailing because that hardware is so new, as are the work units that go with it.

The other option is to finish with that client, and start it up again later when these projects are more stable and are released without the beta requirement. But that could be days, even weeks. Your choice.

I have GTX 680. I haven't had any problems with it (running Beta switch) until now with project 7640. It doesn't fold at all.

Since 7640 doesn't currently fold, what advice can be taken? How get a different project? Would setting different switches help?

The purpose of the beta switch is to test WUs that are unstable so they can be fixed. You have received an unstable according to your request to get them. The only way to get help with beta WUs is to join the beta team. Remove the flag and wait until there are supported WUs for your hardware.
