No bonus for SMP units?

Post by AlexChaka »

I have just noticed all my SMP units sent within last 24 hours (or even more) weren't given a bonus. The client estimations are rather different from what I can see in the statistics.
Why could it be?

Excerpts from the V7 Client log are below:

Welcome to the F@H Forum AlexChaka,

Please note that the point calculation in Beta V7.1.43 isn't correct so please upgrade to the latest Beta version. Moreover, are you already qualified for the bonus points or not?

Hello,

Thank you for your concern.
The problem with the bonus points was resolved in the most reliable way: with getting a couple of new passkeys :)

A couple? Why so many? What happened to the old one or ones?

I used to use a single passkey for all my rigs, at the time when it all happened I had 3 PCs at folding (2 quads with 1 SMP slot each+ something dual-core running 2 UniProcessor slots).

Having heard from the forum that a problem with bonus points could happen when the success rate drops below 80%, I decided to change passkeys to see if it does any better. I got a passkey for each of my 2 quads and it helped.

Today I've been provided with the following data on my old passkey:
Bonus Finished: 558
Bonus Expired: 397
% finished: 58

Honestly, I don't have the faintest idea how I could have spoiled so many units.

Having a bad overclock will do it.

Go through your logs and find the error #

Please monitor the clients more closely. Every failed workunit slows down the project.

Hardly possible, the set-up (Q9450 at 3.2 GHz) has been working 3+ years without any issues. Moreover, the fact that the situation improved after getting a new passkey (nothing was changed in hardware) indirectly proves that...

No errors which could indicate OC problems (at least last month); earlier logs have died, unfortunately...

F@H will wreck the most stabile overclocks. Booting back stock or turn down the oc, is the only way to disprove overclock.

What are your CoreStatus numbrs?

Wrong. in fact, FAH is just proving that the overclock was NOT stable.

FAH can't wreck an overclock that's stable ... it's just happens to be a more rigorous benchmark than whatever told you (incorrectly) that your overclock was stable.

I have logs available from Feb 12, 2012.
Total amount of 'core exit' events is 166.
  • 149 of them are 0x64 (FINISHED_UNIT)
  • 14 are 0x66 (INTERRUPTED) - it's OK, sometimes I make it paused.
  • 1 is 0x75 (FILE_IO_ERROR)
  • 2 are 0x40010004 (UNKNOWN_ENUM); ('File could not be opened' error, if it is a Win32 error code)
After 0x40010004s cores were restarted, work resumed from a checkpoint, successfully finished and sent.

That many expired work units means something is going very wrong many times over. If you don't find the problem now, it will simply happen again and again, and you'll keep needing a new passkey, and you will keep slowing down the project.

FAH has gotten really good at improving it's fahcores over time, and they continue to push the hardware more and more. What was once stable can NEVER be assumed to be stable in the future because fah is that good at improving it use of computing resources. And it would be wrong to assume that hardware could not go bad over the course of 3 years, especially when pushing it that hard.

Thank you for watching fah more closely from now on. ;)
