Intermittent "Kakao Stats", is damaging for F@H.

What I have already expressed on other occasions. Kakao stats are the best. Its clarity, customization, approach make them calificables of superiors.

But the problem is its intermittent. It is not constant. They are interrupted frequently, leaving the users in the dark. Are there other statistics. I have traveled them many times.

In my opinion, are important statistics of Kakao, as the Basic that gives FAH. It seems to me that FAH, It should produce statistics for Kakao. It is necessary for the smooth and constant communication between FAH and donors. FAH could give you redundancy and stability, which are necessary.

Stanford does produce "flat files" for all of the 3rd party stats sites. Kakao uses them, as to the other stats sites.

Here's one discussion on the topic: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=16765 but you can search the forum and the FAQ for the term "flat files" and find a lot of additional information.

All 3rd party stats will fail to update when the Stanford stats are down and the flat files are not being produced. Each 3rd party site can also be down due to problems on their own site when the Stanford stats are fully operational. I've seen both happen in recent history.

I agree with what bruce said. FAH produces enough of the data needed by Kakaostats to generate the stats on that website.

Unfortunately, both FAH and Kakaostats do not have 100% up time - they aim for the best up time they can provide given their resources. Furthermore, I believe that Kakaostats has a database server and a webserver, and they are located in different parts of the world. Therefore, a problem at any point in this system (network connectivity/database error) will cause the stats to be down.

Kakao might notice this post here, but I recommend that you post in the forums over at Kakaostats.com. Perhaps he has not noticed the intermittent issues...

All the 3rd party stat sites are run by volunteers and any donations rarely cover the costs. If you like and use K stats, be sure to donate so their uptime stays mostly up.

Unfortunetelly I'm stuck with an unreliable ADSL connection to the database server at home. This connection gets much worse in the rain season and we have had some days of continous rain. I have already lost many modems due to lightning. The last problem was a truck carrying tall equipment that damaged the telephone line.

Any cheap machine can run a web server so I can afford to mantain one at a US data center. But the database server is a much more demanding service so I could not rent a machine to run it. I must keep the machine at home (Brasília, Brazil) hence the ADSL connection problem. I have just bought a new router to try to better handle the connection problems but it will not help much, if at all. Also my home telephone wiring will be redone, again with not much gain in sight as the signal arrives already degraded.

Saludes to Kakao. Two aspects.
1. All work helping PG, contribute according to our wishes and possibilities. I understand that the maintenance of KakaoStats, is not a business. The problem was born in the level of statistics that you designed. They have so many positive features, which would be redundant to mention them.
Now either, this quality makes them of great importance for the FAH system. Hence my suggestion that PG are interested in their statistics. It could be, giving you the extra support you need?

2. Is true of that I have the same data sources, available KakaoStats. That would mean that each of us, can design their own statistics. I could do it, because it was my profession, but the current user does not. In addition, I think better I dedicate my efforts to other aspects, not to repeat what is already done.

Kakao statistics, are in fact a development so good that let the user analytical; designing your own approach, through the use of multiple alternative indices.

El problema nace en el nivel de las estadísticas que usted diseñó. Tienen tantas características positivas, que sería redundante mencionarlas.
Ahora bien, esa calidad las hace de mucha importancia para el sistema FAH. De ahí mi sugerencia de que PG se interese por sus estadísticas.
Podría ser, brindándole el apoyo extra que usted necesite?

2. Es cierto de que yo dispongo de las mismas fuentes de datos, de que dispone KakaoStats. Eso implicaría que cada uno de nosotros, puede diseñar su propia estadística. Yo podría hacerlo, porque fue mi profesión, pero el usuario corriente no. Además, creo que mejor dedico mis esfuerzos a otros aspectos, no a repetir lo que ya está hecho.

De hecho las estadísticas de Kakao, tienen un desarrollo tan bueno que le permiten al usuario analítico, diseñar su propio enfoque; a través del uso de los múltiples índices alternativos.

After seeing your profile now I know you are from Costa Rica. I didn't recognize the flag although I lived there from 10 to 12 years old. My spanish was perfect. Today I can still understand it but can not speak it fluently anymore.

Kakaostats is my #1 go to stats site and one of the very few sites where I have adblock disabled so I can see and click ads
(I don't NEED that new dell desktop, but I'll have a look anyway!.. Actually the 4p SM one looks nice... )

Ok now I'm sure you are asking the PG to support KakaoStats in some way. Thanks for the suggestion. I would love to hear any idea from the PG or from anyone else.
