Client stats seem off

Post by Zagen30 »

I was looking at the client stats page and noticed that the Active CPU total is incorrect. The listed sum is 459265, but adding up the individual numbers by OS type I get 482271. The other three totals are correct; what's causing this discrepancy?

Also, I'm a bit surprised by some of the numbers. I haven't been checking the page much over the past few months, but are there really that few PS3s left folding? I seem to remember there being around 20k, whereas now there's under 4k. I understand why people would have stopped as the PPD/W is pretty bad by today's standards, but that seems like an unusually large dip in what seems like a relatively short time.

The relative numbers of ATI and Nvidia cards is also surprising. From last I recall Nvidia had a slight edge, and it was around 10k active clients. Core 16 undoubtedly helped a lot in getting people to fold on AMD cards, as the PPD is now much more competitive with Nvidia cards, but 30k seems rather high. Obviously it's great if that number is accurate, but could it be that Nvidia cards are being reported as AMD cards?

Yeah, I noticed it also.

Asked about it here:

No official response, but 7im didn't seem to think there was a problem.

Yes I noticed the same thing. That issue has been around for a while, I noticed the summation error several days ago. I PMed Bruce about it, and but he pointed me to Dr. Pande. I was going to wait until after my exams to bring it to his attention and see if he can fix the errors. Hopefully he can just see this post and address it from here.

Yes the PS3s have fallen for some reason. I would blame the new games that have just come out, but who knows. Maybe the servers are having issues, I'm not sure. If anything, they ought to be going up since winter is coming on. On the 1st of November, there were 21,000 PS3s. Then on the 3rd there were 15,000. On the 5th 12,000, on the 10th 6,000, and now there's 3,600. How unfortunate. Hopefully the numbers will come back up.

Not what I said. I only asked if the change in numbers might have been based in natural cyclic causes.

And you agreed: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?p=198857#p198857 ;)

Indeed it is. Did the math again for today's stats:
323996+4254+33277+78602+28669+8684+3619=481101=481101

Well done, and thank you.

I think that there is more problems then that (not fixed) - I for one have, according to the stats 4 clients the past week. I have 2 - two and I did not have 9 during the past 50 days, I had 3 since I kept getting a bad WU and had to re-number one rig.

Yep, active client counts have been hosed for a while.

Really ?

Only 163 PS3 folders left.

20,000 down to 163 ? I still think the reporting is messed up.

Most of the PS3 assignments come from 171.64.65.83. If I look at the serverstat history (and if I'm interpreting it correctly), it seems that PS3s are uploading maybe 100-150 WUs per hour. I've forgotten how long the typical WU takes a PS3 to process, but it does seem to indicate that the 163 number is low but I don't have any better numbers.

In my case, my PS3 has been off-line for the summer. (High power costs plus I didn't need the extra heat.) It's getting cooler now so I'll take this as a reminder to start it up again.

Assuming the number is as accurate as it was in 2009, looks like 8 hours. http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-PS3#ntoc4 If this is incorrect, it ought to be changed on that page.

Hopefully the numbers come up pretty soon.

If this (PS3 WU length) is incorrect? Everything could be incorrect, so everything ought to be changed?

Go find out. Don't just complain about it. Then report back the correct numbers. That's how it gets fixed.

If I had a PS3 I would check myself. Sadly I don't. The PS3 has been upgraded several times, so I was just suggesting what we should do if someone finds the number is off. Based on a Google search, looks like the numbers fluctuate a bit (up to 11 hours in one case) but it looks like overall it stays around 8 hours. Just want to make sure the F@h site stays true since some of the pages haven't been updated for a couple of years is all. :)

The upgrades to the PS3 include changes in disk storage and die-shrink of some of the chips but AFAIK the chip upgrades were aimed at saving power/heat, not at speeding up processing. I don't think there were changes to GHz, but if so, the changes were relatively small. Somebody can probably correct me if I'm wrong.
