new serverstats page suggestions

Post by Jesse_V »

From folding.typepad.com:
We've developed a new serverstat page, which we're now suggesting as a replacement for the old one. The new one is more asthetically pleasing but also has a lot of changes under the hood to allow for more reliable and faster updates.

We're keeping the old serverstat page link pointing to the old page (i.e. no change) in case there were scripts that were parsing the old page. However, we've set the new page to update every 10 minutes and the old one to only update every hour. We will keep the old page up for at least two months to give 3rd party utilities a chance to update their code and to give us feedback (please post feedback to foldingforum.org).
It is a much better site, but one thing I liked about the original serverstat site was the fact that the column labels were displayed almost every screen height. This made it much easier to keep track of how to interpret the contents of each cell in the table. It would be nice if you included that in the new site as well. I think this modification would be beneficial to both people in charge of the servers, and to regular users just checking it out.
If you want to make it really fancy I'm sure that there's some javascript way of making the column labels always appear at the top of the screen no matter where you've scrolled to. I think I've seen that on other sites. But that's not really necessary, it just would look cool. Thanks for revamping the site.

Until they consider this change, use the sort options on the columns.

For example, when I am looking at my GPU work units, I change the client column to show only the GPU servers. And then all the data fits on one screen, and the labels work very well.

I'm guessing that is the way they intended people to use it. ;)

Also, the wider your screen, the better the table looks. Or if we could hide the OS_Weight_Program_Port column, it would make it so all the servers displayed on one line. Much more readable. Also, freezing the header labels (like freeze panes in MS Excel), and just scrolling the data would be better than putting header lines every 20 rows, IMO. 8-)

Thanks for the suggestions, and I like your opinions about the display of the table. I'm not sure if your part of Pande Group or something, I just hope they will read this.
Since apparently you normally give short replies, thanks also for explaining!
