Stats page down?

Post by BrokenWolf »

Went to look at my stats http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/mai ... BrokenWolf and I received this little error:

There was an error accessing/using the database.
Description: error opening wwwrun@vspdb5.stanford.edu:stats
Please send this error message and the conditions under which it was caused to the F@H researchers.
Thank you.

So here I am sending the researchers this error message.

Thanks folks.

Give PantherX a break, there is no need to roll your eyes at him he didn't mean to degrade the comment made by BrokenWolf. Also, I'm sure the mods threat everyone the same as it should be, no differences between top 50 or top 5000 producers. It's not as if ppd equals any other measurement ;)

There is a lot going on, PantherX must have overlooked the zero point update at the time of posting. Again nothing to roll your eyes at. It's sooner those who demand to be threated different for x reason who might get frowned on if he talks down the effort and dedication a certain person has showed cleaning up and expanding the current forum structure, writing much if not all of the gpu3 documentation on this forum and doing the normal moderation duties one has on this forum.

I don't envy him, I'm glad he's doing what he can to make this place better. Some appriciation to not only the top50 producers, but also the voluentier staff of this forum might be in place, and if it's not appriciation, then please show some respect.

A friendly word of advice, take it as it is.

I see your point and have edited my post. My top contributor comment was only meant to show a certain level of awareness and knowledge by BrokenWolf, not for special treatment. You are also correct regarding PantherX's involvement in the program and also as a mod. My comment to PantherX was misdirected and out of line.
I reacted and responded hastily and inappropriately to PantherX when his comment seemed (to me) to be dismissive of an issue. I was wrong to do so and I apologize.

If you both (BrokenWolf & KMac) mean that clicking the URL (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/mai ... BrokenWolf) causes this to be displayed in the website:
There was an error accessing/using the database.
Description: error opening wwwrun@vspdb5.stanford.edu:stats
Please send this error message and the conditions under which it was caused to the F@H researchers.
Thank you.
Then there might be a hard to find bug because I haven't yet encountered it. Here is what I understood: (NZST which is +12)
Wed Jun 22, 2011 3:53 pm -> Error (BrokenWolf)
Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:13 am -> No error (PantherX)
Thu Jun 23, 2011 6:52 pm -> Error (KMac)
Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:11 pm UTC -> No error (PantherX)

It could be a rare glitch or maybe the error occurs under a specific condition(s). In either case, we would need more information before coming to a conclusion.

PantherX he says the 0 point update is probably caused by the stats glitch he encountered. If the individual pages don't work it's pretty safe to say the flat files aren't updated either. What happens then is that either there is zero point update and the next update restores the points to normal, dip and peak, or the missing stats don't appear on the next update and PG needs to take action to see why the non processed credit hasn't been assigned on the following round.

If I look at the EOC team stats, the first 10 I checked have had a dip at that time and a peak afterwards, I think the points are now in order and don't need a manual recheck. I also don't store the data needed to verify if I got credit for a unit I folded at the time, I trust BrokenWorlf can tell if the points have been attributed in the update after the one he posted about.

Hey all. Sorry for not replying sooner. I saw the update later and all was ok and I forgot about this post. And the points averaged out for that day so no major issues.

If it was working for someone else then it might have been a bug that was happening in only certain circumstances. Not a major issue so I just did like it said. I figured that if there were an issue then it would get looked at. I am a sysadmin where I work so I am more than aware that issues can crop up from time to time.

As for the other issue I seem to have missed I am glad it got worked out. I know how to get my Windows and VMware systems to whistle "God save the Queen" in 7 different languages (little humor there) and I can configure the Folding clients to get them to work how I want them to. Just because I have alot of points does not mean I know all the F@H infrastructure works or need any special attention. In regards to the special attention, if you are a female, about 5'10", a redhead and like computer geeks I would greatly appreciate any special attention (shameless cry for social life help complete). :egeek:

Have a good weekend everyone.

I believe that the stats server is DOWN. No update since ~8PM EDT (6-25).

i.e.: http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main ... ame=314159

Is anyone else able to get other than the Stats Updating message?

I love (not) the summertime when things such as this happen more often. :)

Just looked at the flat file at 10:42 pm PDT (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/daily_user_summary.txt.bz2) and see the date time group at the top of the file is Fri Jun 24 17:20:00 PDT 2011 - some 5 plus hours earlier.

Also seems that Kakao and EOC aren't updating since then either.

The stats page is still showing as updating on the 01:00 UTC update so its been down for almost 9 hours now.

EOC's last points showing are in the 9pm slot (3am UTC) but have only the points for me that should have shown up at midnight UTC - so I'm guessing that update ran late/long - missed the EOC cut-off time but then did finish and the 01:00 UTC has hung completely

update started at Sat Jun 25 01:00:01 UTC 2011 (Fri Jun 24 18:00:01 PDT 2011)

I am assuming it's not unknown, they been working hard on the server issues including the stats, with the passkey and flat files giving problems with 3rd party and stanford statistics consistency. Let's hope this is one of the last times it's gone down like this, and that when it comes back up it is in a new format so the 3rd party stats can be synched correctly.

Any word from PL on when it will be up again? I need my stats fix!! :)

I'm assuming, like MtM, that the issue is related to updates for the passkey/flat file issues, but it would be nice if this could be confirmed...
