Weird Points

Post by patonb »

In this last update, I just got 13000pts and only 5 wu.

I run 2 smp 3 gpus and can't think of any reason why it'd be that much......

Any one got an good reason for it? Cause if its a wu, i'd love to have more of them.

Thank you for the report. I'll see about getting someone to fix the project that's getting too many points. ;)

You may find that the points are correct. You can go to the Project Summary page: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html and check to see what the point count is for your project. If you also have a Passkey you can check the last column; "Kfactor" which would indicate a multiplier for returning the WU ahead of schedule. SMP clients are currently getting higher points (when aligned with a Passkey), and GPUs are also on the higher end. 13000 divided by 5 WUs sounds reasonable.

Yha no....... I'm over 18million and 4yrs, and never has a smp been over 4000pts on my systems. Best I can figure, I got 3500 for my i7, 2000 on my q6600 ad 1300 TOPS on my gpus in a 3hr window.

So I'm pretty sure theres an oops.

No... I'm going by eoc and kakao stats that show 5 units and 12,649pts

05.17, 6pm 2,470 5
05.17, 3pm 6,059 6
05.17, 12pm 12,694 5
05.17, 9am 1,976 4
05.17, 6am 5,602 6
05.17, 3am 1,976 4

See the oddness of the updates.

Perhaps this will explain it:

Hi patonb (team 12864),
Your WU (P10121 R0 C442 G1) was added to the stats database on 2011-05-17 07:06:58 for 10717.6 points of credit.

I was lucky enough to get 6000+ points for a SMP WU recently. It was a 1395 point WU with a K-factor of 4.63, and my i7 chewed right through it racking up the big points, but my averages are 2500pts/12hr for my i5, 3000pts/9hr for my i7, and 3300+pts/6hr for my Dual Quad-Core Xeon box. Checking the Project Summary page will show that there are some Aces in there, and that it's just the luck of the draw (and whether or not you've sacrificed to the Server gods recently) as to whether or not you'll get one.

There are some smp Wu's that fold in around 12 to 15 mins tpf that yield 10k+ points, depends on how fast your doing it. So I don't think it's anything to panic about.

What Aces? How do you tell?

FYI, the SMP work unit projects are all benchmarked the same way, so they are all Aces. Please read the Points FAQ. ;)

Yes, I've read the FAQ. I'm referring to Projects 6040 and 6041; you'll find that information by reading the Project Summary page.

p6040 and p6041 are hardly aces. They have a high point value but are below average performers in terms of ppd on most machines. That's 7im's point. There is no way to find the best performing WUs by looking at psummary.

That sorta explains it.... Oddly that unit has nothing showing in hfm.nets benchmark veiwer and was blank when it folded.

World.. 6040 & 6041 are the worst units giving me 3200ppd vs the 7200 unit giving me 6100ppd.

They worked for me. 6000+ points vs. 3300 points on the average SMP WU.

If you're talking PPD then that's a slightly different discussion; remember that this discussion started as "why did I get crazy points this one update". Running more than one WU on a multi-core processor give me fewer points in a day than running them sequentially. I've checked my stats on KakaoStats over time, and have observed it and acted upon it. That's what I mean by an Ace. 6040 and 6041 haven't been dogs for my point count; even when factoring in a replacement by another SMP WU and determining PPD, it's running WUs in parallel that lower my PPD, so you may be seeing 6040 and 6041 as "dogs" if you are running them that way; they will take forever.
