FAH wanting to use Program Files directory, causing failure

Post by Entegy »

FAH 6.23 is failing to run on my system, (download error) despite 6.23 running fine for a while. I did some digging and realized that FAH is trying to use its Program Files directory as the work directory now, ignoring the %AppData% folder that it's used for work all this time. Of course, Program Files is a protected folder that requires admin privileges. The only difference in my system the last few days is that I've installed Windows 7 Service Pack 1, which leads me to believe that FAH is looking for specific Windows versions and if it doesn't find it, it will use Windows 9x-era behaviour of storing files.

Hello Entegy, welcome to the forum.

When you created the new shortcut to start the new client executable, what did you set for the Start In: field? I'd guess you didn't use the same settings as the shortcut to the previous version. The start in should point to the Appdata folder like before.

The GPU install guide has examples if you need one.

Well, I overthought that one! Problem was indeed the start in field. Thanks for the help. Somehow the old shortcut got wiped...
Well, 6.23 is working again. Thanks again :D
