Low PPD

Post by Phantom2487 »

I have returned to folding after a CPU upgrade on my primary system, I have also used every feasible system in my house to fold below is my list. For some reason I'm getting a weak 1900 PPD, considering the hardware being used.

CPU (speed) /RAM (amount) / OS / Client Type(s)

Phenom II x4 920 (2.8GHz) / 4GB / Win 7 Home Prem 64 / 4x Console Only
Core2Duo (2.1GHz) / 3GB / Win Vista Ultimate 32 / 2x Console Only
Dual core Centrino (1.66GHz) / 2GB / Ubuntu 10.10 32 / 2x Console Only
Sempron 3200 (?1.8GHz) / 1GB / CentOS 5.5 64 / 1x Console Only

The Phenom system does have an 9600GT graphics card, will run the GPU client when everything else is straightened out. Also I ran the SMP for a little while just might switch back to that, for some reason I switched to the 4x consoles. May have answered my own question but I want to have some suggestions as to what I should do.

The Core2Duo system is a laptop that has a 8600GT card but that client failed, most likely due to the way some laptop GPU's are neutered. --I run this in my unheated shop where this time of year it's ~always below freezing temps, just to save the thing from the heat.

The Centrino and Sempron machines aren't expected to accomplish much, at one time I switched to the small option on installation but after more reading it appears to only change the network usage, and not how big of WU's the machines get -- this could be wrong also.

Change the X4 back to the SMP client (after completing the 4 current CPU work units). You'll get your points back.

4x CPU clients get benchmarked at 440 PPD. SMP is 1760 PPD, plus Quick Return Bonus.

Check each copy of fahlog.txt. (If you restarted recently, also check fahlog-prev.txt.)

Thanks, is there any way I can set F@H to stop after finishing it's current WU? Thanks again!

I am seeing WU's being completed, and a look at the logs last night I did get Thank You's, so I am getting and sending WU's.

I'll check those out when I get home after work, in ~5 hrs, thanks!

Can you please tell us why you changed from SMP2 to Classic? If you initially got low PPD with the SMP2 WUs, it is because you have to first qualify for the Bonus points (Details).

You can use the -oneunit flag to stop the Client after it finishes the current WU (Method).

I guess I was being impatient, the SMP was getting ~3,750 points every ~12+ hours, the 4x service ones are doing WU's like crazy, all-though clearly now not getting me any more points...

So clearly the way to go is to revert back to the SMP as service. Thanks!

gw --

After switching to SMP I did that search on its log and got '[01:40:48] CoreStatus = 66 (102)' but only when the machine is restarted. I 'think' I'm getting this figtured out now, since I finally got the GPU client working alongside the SMP.

--Thanks!
