P6702, run 3, clone 78, gen 97

Post by lizard »

For the last few nights now, the SMP2 client on my i7-980X running Windows 7 has tried to fold the following WU:

P6702, run 3, clone 78, gen 97

Unfortunately, everytime it tries to fold this WU, the client immediately hangs (CPU usuage drops to 0%) and a Windows error message pops up stating that 'FahCore_a3.exe has stopped working'.

The only way to get folding again is to do the naughty thing of stopping the client and deleting the work folder and queue.dat file so that the client picks up a different WU. The client then folds happily these other WUs.

Unfortunately, every night for the last 3-4 days the Assignment Server has re-dished out this unit to this client, causing it to crash again.

It's beeping frustrating as this client is losing several hours of folding time per day due to this dodgy WU.

Any ideas?

I too have been given this work unit and it fails right after starting with Core communication error 0x29. Tried deleting the queue manually and got the same WU. Let it cycle through a few times and then a new a3 core was downloaded--and got the same WU again. Stopped the client. Will start again tomorrow. Hope that this WU doesn't mess with my bonus...

If you are getting a bad WU, you need to:
Delete the queue.dat file
Delete the work folder
Change the Machine ID to another unique value

After that, you will be assigned a different WU.

I also got it myself, restarted the client and got a 6070 wu which is currently folding right now.

My q9450 has gotten this one a few times now. Same thing...crashes at 0%, reports FahCore_a3.exe has stopped working. Same exact one...6702 R3 C78 G97.
I've went as far as deleting the client folder itself and starting from scratch, rebooting the computer, and running chkdsk. I'd say this is a bad WU. I've had no problems with any other WU on this machine.

PantherX wrote:If you are getting a bad WU, you need to:
Delete the queue.dat file
Delete the work folder
Change the Machine ID to another unique value

After that, you will be assigned a different WU.
This worked for me...grabbed a different WU. Thanks! ;)
