runs and clones

Why do some projects have only 1 or 2 runs, but a ton of clones, while others have many runs but no clones, and yet others are more balanced?

I has to do with the research they are doing. Sometimes a few runs are enough to figure out the info they are looking for. Sometimes they need more data to paint a fuller picture.
