When nothing else is running, my SMP is only using 13% of the cpu tops. Is this how it's supposed to be? Should I be running 8 of these to get the maximum workload out of my computer?
I have a laptop with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 820 @ 1.73GHz with 8.00 GB ram.
Oh, and I have 4 cores and 8 threads but I don't know what that means.
My SMP is only using 12-13% of my CPU

Hello Num1cubfn, welcome to the forum.
You probably missed a step while following the SMP install guide, and the SMP client downloaded a regular CPU work unit. CPU work units are single threaded, hence the low CPU usage. As long as you eventually got the client configured to use the -smp switch (you should see that in the fahlog.txt file), the client should finish up that CPU work unit in a few hours to a day or so, and the next work unit will be an SMP work unit and use all of your CPU cores.

Ah, so because of the type of job that I received, it cannot use my whole processor to do the job?7im wrote:Hello Num1cubfn, welcome to the forum.

In the file you mentioned, I found
"[17:54:39] Work type 78 not eligible for variable processors"
But a search turned up no results for "smp". Does that mean I have to add a tag "-smp" somewhere in setup before the next work unit? And if so, how does one do that?

Please review...
FAH Install Guide: Windows SMP client installation (v6.30)
Then you can either add that "-smp" switch in the Advanced settings section, under Additional Parameters (best solution), or you can add it to the command line of the shortcut that starts your client.

Now for the 6-8 hour wait to see if it worked!

Welcome Num1cubfn, I see you've found your way here OK lots of good information here, and some familiar posters tooNum1cubfn wrote:Thanks you so much for your time!7im wrote:Please review...

4 cores is the number of real cores you have in your laptop CPU but it also does Hyper Threading so each core has 2 threads one real one virtual, therefore 8 threads.
i7 7800x RTX 3070 OS= win10. AMD 3700x RTX 2080ti OS= win10 .
